Lost!
Just ordered my first new system bits for a loooong time:

E6300 Core2Duo
2x1GB PC5300 DDRII
ASRock Conroe945-DVI

This will all hopefully slot together into my mATX asus barebones case (T2P-Deluxe case) with fdd, 2x sata HDD's and my DVDRW.

I'm going to be using it for general office/email/browsing along with photo editing in CS2 and also my CAD & 3DS Max work i used to do and am starting to do again.

Does everyone agree i should see a considerable difference with this setup from my old mATX integrated board running a 2.26 Celeron D and 512mb DDR??

Also any tips for the build - its been a long time since i did anything like this!

Money is the major factor here tho :(

I did go for 2gb of ram over 1gb tho because that is a major player in both photoshop and 3ds max

I guess that as always a fresh install is the way to go when changing hardware, but i am pretty busy with work stuff and would rather not for now...do you lot think it will work if i just plug it all back in to XP PRO that is currently installed?

Unfortunately not mate, you will have to format the drive that you have windows on :( I thought that I could do the same thing when I upgraded just recently but you can't :/

Its not the windows install thats the problem, just all the flipping programs that need reinstalling, autocad, 3ds max, photoshop etc, and that on top of the utilities and little bits 'n' pieces

Trust me, I am frustrated at that either. Imagine 40 Gb worth of games to re-install.

Well i'm back up and running - had a few problems like the mobo didnt fit the case i already had, must have been "special" as it was a barebones case originally!!

However, some benchmarks i did before and after for comparison:

P4 Celeron 2.26 512mb DDR / Core2Duo E6300 2GB DDRII

So as you can see from limited benchies at a basic level its massively faster :D

I cant wait til i get it set up properly, maybe a small overclock and actually run some real world programs like autoCAD 2007 and 3DS MAX 9 to see how it performs then :)
