New System Problem

Just installed a new PSU and the computer seems to boot and randomly after 1-5 secs restarts.

The system is:

C2D E6400
1gb GTX 280
4x 1gb Ballistix
XFI Gamer
2x250gb Seagates

Now more heads are better then one, so i was hoping for some help please.

I'm thinking short circuit with the possibility that the CPU might not be right.
 
What do you mean?
It keeps restarting over and over again and wont boot?
Or it does this just once? As in your fans and stuff spin for a second then stop then restart?
Which is it sorry?
 
Make sure all cables are secured correctly and that no cards or components have come dislodged during install of new PSU.

If that fails try a CMOS reset.

Ah sorry, well basically the lights on the motherboard flash up, the diagnostic leds show up and the fans spin, hard drives, graphics card and so on. But it then just stops like someone's turned the power off, then turns it self back on.
 
But the second time when it turns on it stays on and boots?
If so dont worry too much about it
What PSU is it anyway?
Ignore first bit just seen your additional post, as I say what PSU make is it?
Yes thats not good, I take it you have checked all connections as suggested?
 
have you got another system you can test it on? maybe a friends?
Its possible the PSU is faulty, it might not be supplying enough power to boot properly (obviously it should thats why Im saying you should test it)
Also have you still got your old PSU? Have you tried reconnecting that? If you reconnect the old one to your system and it works fine then that'd point towards the PSU being at fault too, if you reconnect and it doesnt start then you must have dislodged or damaged (unlikely) something when you changed them over
 
Just tried something: when I take processor out, the system hangs and does not re-set. When I put the processor back in, I get the re-boot problem.

Again you're going to need to get your hands on another system and swap out components til you can find what it is thats causing it, its prob either the CPU has failed or M/B less likely RAM cant really think of anything else that'd cause it
 
Well sadly i have no mates with a 775 who are willing to allow me to test.

The cpu ran fine until i changed the motherboard, i had it previously at 3ghz (1.3v).

The motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS4 (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard)

I've just removed the motherboard from the case and tested it on a magazine to make sure nothing was touching the motherboard and i still get the problem.

Going to try my old motherboard to see if its that.
 
Just tried my old motherboard, this time it doesnt seem to post.

With the cpu in, the computer just hangs and the graphics card just spins at 50% and nothing comes on the screen.

Without the cpu, the graphics card doesn't even spin.
 
to rule out RAM, try removing all but one stick, and try 2 different sticks one at a time see if it'll post, if it is RAM its unlikely more than 1 stick has gone

Just tried all sticks in all 4 slots, still the same problem.

Just removed the battery and that hasn't done anything.
 
well it seems like youve managed to rule out everything but your CPU, but before buying a new one Id beg someone to lend you theres for 2 mins so you can check - you dont want to spend money on a new one to find it isnt CPU

Well the motherboard has these diagnostic leds that are meant to tell you if a component is functioning abnormally, when i first turn on the system, there is a blue led on near the cpu for 2 secs, it turns off and then just before the system reboots, it comes back on.

Problem is in the manual there is nothing to say what colour light or so on indicates a dodgy component.
 
Ive had a quick look in the manual online and it says there are different LED's for different components, you can see it yourself here, go to section 1-8, basically there should be small lettering next to the LED which tells you which component it is
CP_LED, DIMM_LED etc

It's the CPU_LED light that is the case, but I can't see where it says what the light should be doing or what colour it should be (i.e. should it stay on, should it just flash, should it be blue or red etc). The CPU_LED light flashes on for a couple of seconds, then it goes off, and then just before it reboots it comes back on again before the system dies.
 
The way I read it, if it comes on it indicates a problem with that component, it says theres 7 different LED's Id say if the others are all off this means your CPU has gone to CPU heaven
