Hey guys, building a new system for a guy very soon, we have a specification set up. Just showing you guys and seeing what you think of the system as a whole, operability, power.. etc

if you are trying to spend as much as possible to futureproof your PC, it doesnt work. it is recommened you spend about £1000 max on the tower and upgrade as newer tech comes along.

3way sli isnt worth it yet as it hasnt really been tested and im not sure if games that support sli suooprt it.
the 9800 (or whatever their names are) gpus by nvidia out sometime next year will be much better then the gtx so get one for now and get the new card whne they come out if you need one.

needs case and OS.
the ip35 pro will not support sli, so may need to be changed if you want sli.
if you have the money to get the system you speced, then i see no problem with you changing MB when you need, you may want to get the IP35 instead if the board will not be used for too long

the HX620 is good enough to run 8800GTX sli but may suffer in tri sli, depening on how much power the new GPUs draw. the spec above will run on a HX520.

finally what is the pc used for

Not futureproofing specifically.. he wants 3-way SLI .. we looked at tests been done so far, look promising and see up to 2.8x the power.

- Wants it january, beginning 2008 for work. :)

gives you a penryn CPU with unlocked mulitpliers. this is the best intel cpu to date and can overclock quite well. it is also the first in intels new CPU range.

there is 8GB of ram in the spec, not possible to get more as the MB will only support 8GB

if he is not a hardcore gamer then a single 8800GTX might do him or wait for the 9800GTX.

the case may be too big but i have one and i like it. the build quality is very high.
 
Like the Blu-ray / HD Drive... want to look at some specs on them next.

The case i am looking at is actually bigger in Width and Depth, just not quite as tall..

The CPU would be an upgrade option for the Future.. dont really want to go to the yorksfield, price will undoubtably drop or the competition will arrive and be way cheaper, like the with e6x50's.

8GB Ram is maybe Overkill , dont think much improvement on a 4GB is required.. will look into that too,

Dont want to go to SSD, so would rather go with WD Raptor X 10k RPM.. fast, and dont need a lot of storage in this system, most important data will be stored in server, which is why we decided against mirror on this computer and will go for Stripe.

Am seriously considering the 9800 ( G92 ) Nvidia's now.. been reading some promising but speculative info on them, Just need to find a reliable Release date to make that decision, as it would live happily on the nForce 780i, which i previously chose.

He is not a serious gamer, mostly eve, occasionally FPS, would like to get crysis running full Dx10 on 1680x1050 though. Needs the GPU power more for 3DMax2008, from what i understand.

This is replacing a 8800GTS SLi P35 Duo Core system, which from what i understand, was not quite powerful for smooth use in 3DMax and some gaming he did.

the PSU has the connectors for sli/crossfire, but not for a set up that requires more then 4 6 or 8 pin pci-e connectors.

the MB is should allow for 9800

the 8800 is there incase the purchese has to be made before the 9800s are out, so remove it if it is not needed.

again 8GB is in, this may help in ram intensive programs, but you could always drop to 4GB to save money.

2 fan controllers are in to allow you to control every fan that can connect up to them

there are enough sharkoon fans there to replace all the lian li case fans that are not that good. and the sharkoons are very quite.
 
just found that the 9800 is using the new G92 chip

well.. the new GTS ones do too... and they are cheaper than the G80 GTX cards....

So how about 2 x of the G92 Chip cards in SLi, see how we go with them and if a third is needed and supported, that would be a possibility.

the new GTS are a bit slower then the GTX especially at higher resolutions , however they draw less power.
it is viable to have 2xGTS in sli but i would still consider holding out for a 9800 if graphical power is needed. alternatively you could look into graphic cards designed specifically for graphical designers instead. (these are not stocked by OCUK). may not be good for games but will be for graphical work.

also whatever you decide to buy DON'T get a thermaltake PSU as they are awful. seasonic or corsair are generally considered the market leaders in quality and performance.

Oh, thought thermaltake were good, thanks for that heads up !:) Will look for another one, maybe corsair then, do like them.

yea, i want to find more info on the 9800 but i know the name is subject to change and cannot find release date, cannot afford to wait too long..

Anyway, past my bedtime, will continue this research tomorrow... after this job,i think i may have to upgrade my gaming rig a bit too, hehe. its too easy to spend money!

No, that's not right. The G92 chip is just a 65nm version of the G80 chip. The GeForce 9 series chip is the D9E.
