I'm going to buy a new rig (hopefully tonight) on a fairly tight budget. I'd quite like a quad core CPU so its futureproof and a nice shiny new wide tft.

My options are:
either a 21.6" widescreen, 2.4 quad and a 8600 gt.

or something more like a 19", a e2180 and a 8800 gt.

My budget is around £700.

Feel free to spec me something completely different up too.

thanks

How about this:

But as you need a monitor too: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-060-SA&groupid=703&catid=17&subcat=276

That would push it to around £740 including next day delivery.

Anything around that spec is fine, with a quad, P35 board, 2gb of DDR2, the GT, and everything essential to get it up and running.

the zen is a good little case, I have one, but It's the one thing I regretting getting afterwoods thoughs, aspesh after seeing some really nice ones in a shop.

Which OS would you use?

vista home premium 64-bit, or 32-bit if you don't care about 4gb ram, and 64-bit apps.

and what network system are you using? becasue Belkin, netgear, and a lot of other companies don't have 64-bit drivers out, so you would have to buy loads of new stuff.

I've got a wg111t usb wireless dongle, Apparently that isn't compatiable. I can just use a spare access point and hardwire that in for now.

You sure the T doesn't have drivers? WG111 (no T) works fine in Vista X64, and is a lower model...

my advice buy a tower with psu included. ive never had a prob yet with em my current one has a 600 watt psu and cost £47. This is the same as my previous case and this is almost 18 month old.
If you want to future proof it buy a good motherboard as that is the key. It really all depends how long you expect it to last.AS to be honest 18 month to 2 years is all you can expect( these are at the very extremes). No matter how much you spend now in 18 months time it will be out of date, so spend wisely.Q6600, 8800GT,320GB HDD,680i sli,2-4gb ddr2,22" monitor,20x dvd-rw
