New System SSD

Hey, ive just built a completely new system, Ive got an intel 80gb SSD and a 500gb HDD. The plan was to only connect the SSD first, and set that all up properly, ive connected all the wires to it but what should i do once the power is on?

I just did the same as you, yesterday, I downloaded the latest firmware update from Intel website and burnt it to a disk, then booted from that disc and updated the firmware to the latest version, then I went into the bios and made sure it was set to ACHI. Then I just installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 onto the SSD, everything was tickety boo, super fast drive!!!

Cant install windows at the moment, not tried to update firmware or anything, how do you know if the drive is in ACHI, also when i install windows do you need to format an SSD or partition it or such? Installing win 7 64bit

Should i turn off "Speeding HDD" ? and also do i need to format the SSD before installing windows?

anyone? If i need to format the SSD what file format should i used? NTFS?
