Hi Gys,

I've just built up my new system (Asus P4Q pro, quad intel, BFG nvidia260, 4GB ram)

when i turn it on the system starts to boot (the keyboard cycles and all the fans start up) but i get no display on the monitor and the fan of the graphics card isn't running.

I don't get any beeps or anything from the mobo.

I have checked the seating of the GF and that seems ok. The GF has the correct power and nothing else is plugged in.

I have also removed the CMOS battery and replaced it after 30 sec.

Any idea cos i'm this is starting the **** me off as this is the first system i have build that doesn't work.

Try another Gfx card in your pc from a working machine or put your Gfx card in a working and machine and see if it works - sounds like its a graphics card problem from what you describe. You could use onboard graphics if your board has it.

All cables are plugged in. i have even tried a different adaptor for the graphics power.
The power supply is a Hiper 580w so i would expect this to be fine or at least boot when it only has the graphics card and mobo to run.

I don't have a spare GF card as this is my first PCI-E card (i know, not upgraded in a while)

The card was opened either at the factor or at OCUK for a quality check so i have to assume that it should work.

i might know what the issue is.
My PSU doesn't have an 8 pin power plug for the mobo. On the P5Q half of this plug is blocked so i just pluged in the 4 pin plug.

Looking in the manual it says to plug in a 8 pin one and remove the blank. Can someone confirm that this is correct.

Looks like i need a new PSU

I ordered a new PSU, so hopefully that will resolve the issue. At least now i can use all my old components to build a new PC

just built my 1st pc today very similiar to your spec and had the same problem (Looking in the manual it says to plug in a 8 pin one and remove the blank. Can someone confirm that this is correct.)
i removed cap inserted 8 pin plug and it loaded up straight away
