I have finally broken away from Mac. Well, in about an hour or so I would have sold my IPad. So this leaves me with a conundrum. Which tablet.

Well first off I considered if I actually needed needed one, and the answer was, probably, it does fill that gap between PC and smart phone.

Narrowed the selection to 3 after reading many a review. In order of preference at the moment I have....

Nexus 10
Galaxy Tab 10
Sony Xperia

I'm in New York so they are a little cheaper here. Looking to get one before the day is out.

Any thoughts?

I assume you mean the Xperia Z tablet. I've got the Z and the N10 here and can't really go wrong with either the N10 is a bit generic, good value for money, screen is exceptional for certain things. Xperia is IMO the better overall tablet great screen, slim with good balance for holding has a bit of a character of its own.

Don't really have any experience of the Galaxy Tab 10, closest I have is the original Galaxy Note phone and thats a decent device so I'd assume the Tab 10 is pretty good to.

It's between the Xperia Z and Nexus 10 really, both are the top Android tablets.

The tab is more of a low end tablet so it shouldn't really be considered, the Note 10.1 is Samsung's high end tablet that's in line with the other two.

But even the Note 10.1 has only got 1280x800 screen, it has more functionality with regards to the pen but it's really down to the Xperia or N10 as mentioned as above. Not sure why Samsung doesn't have anything to match as it seems like their Tab 3s will similarly poorly equipped wrt screen.

By software they just mean a few android bells and whistles, nearly everything you do will be in apps, which a few .x version numbers is not going to affect.

The sony is slimmer, lighter, much more colorful and contrasty display and more stylish.

The nexus 10 is higher res and has a bigger battery.

I have owned both and I feel the Z is much better.

I read so many reviews coming into work this morning and I am still none the wiser. It seems to be such a close call.

Maybe my trip to the Sony store will help!

Flip a coin :P can't go wrong with either really unless you have a need for something very specific. I prefer the Sony as it has a bit of individual character the N10 is very much a generic looking/feeling, if very capable, tablet.

Make sure its updated to the latest version of the firmware - some of the shop units seem to have been sent out before the ~800MB update that was pushed out just before release that amongst other things has last minute updates for the sound and the touchscreen.

Settings->About Tablet->Software update

Theres 3 tabs it should already have the latest but check the system tab.

Ah thats some small update only available in the US and Japan IIRC not sure whats in it its not available in the UK yet. You've already got the main one then.
