Hi all, New to this folding here and have a few questions.

I started folding on sturday and left my pc on all night, woke up sunday and it had done its first work unit, But i havnt received any score for it. Ideas?

Theres no way i can be in the top 10, with 1 machine is there?

Welcome aboard. Is your folding name the same as your ID here? Do you know what WU you completed and did it reach 100%? Unless you're using a top-end PC the time taken seems a bit short to complete a WU successfully so it may have ended early and not given you any points. It's worth checking the log, either manually or via Fahmon. Are you sure you entered the correct username and team when you configured the client? I'll do a search for your username once the current stats update finishes.

You might get to the top ten with one machine but it'll need to be a heavily overclocked quad-core or similar and you'll need to be patient. See Cob for details..... I'm about to move into cell 11 after almost a year of folding but I've been lucky and have a school-full of PCs all folding for me plus a couple of quad-core PCs of my own.

What username do you fold under? Also, did you set your team to 10?

It usually takes a few hours to be entered into the stats, but if you dumped the WU this morning it should be in the stats by now.

Also, there is absolutely zero chance of being in the top 10 with just one machine - unless you nicked it from the Enterprise.

yes username breman1972

compleated at about 13.00pm

Im running a quad core 2.4 running at 3.1 with 2gb of mem

I dont think my pc is low spec as i just upgraded it last month via a spending spree at ocuk

It can take a few hours to show up. Standford are doing an update atm and EOC will update at 9pm, so it should show up then.

Did you put in Team number 10?

Ok they've both updated and there's no sign of a breman1972 yet on any team. You should have atleast shown up at Stanford by now.

I did use team 10 on the configure screen and the user name is breman1972 hopefully once I compleate this next one it will show up.

welcome sir - should get about 3000 points per day or there abouts with that quad running at that speed.

Should be dumping 3500 points in next mins or so myself!

I'm clearly doing something very wrong, as I only get around 1800 ppd on a [email protected]. I'm running four instances of Fah, as I cannot get the smp client to setup correctly. Could this be the reason?

Cheers

yeah - i'm running 2 instances of the win smp = what is wrong with the setup you have and can;t get running.

Should be a 1 min job to setup properly

(also reminds me i need to get overclocking further!!:p:p)

I always seem to run into problems with running the setup. It inevitable fails as being unable to connect to the port.

Despite trying everything I've found in Google (esp. with regard to installing it as Admin), it still doesn't want to work for me :(

The errors are "Unable to connect to 'xxxx-pc:8676', sock error: generic socket failure, error stack:
MPIDU_Sock-post-connect(1228): unable to connect to xxxx-pc on port 8676, exhausted all endpoints (errno -1)
MPIDU_Sock_post_connect(1275): unable to connect to xxxx-pc on port 8676, No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it. (errno 10061)

I don't run any firewall software, and Windows firewall is disabled.

Sorry to hijack the thread Breman

Everything you need to know is in the readme.rtf file that's in the folding@home folder. It sounds like you either don't have .NET 2.0 installed or haven't run install.bat before running the client.

The readme is useless for troubleshooting, and as I'm trying to install to Vista, .Net2 isn't required (already installed).

It's failing the install.bat towards the end, when it gives me the above errors.

Never mind. I've reverted to XP and it seems to be running fine. Another nail in the Vista coffin for me :(

Breman, you're now in the stats - you finished one WU on Xmas day and another two yesterday. You should be top five stompers when Rich does the next stats.

Yes I've been playing with my setup, I've ditched the graphical client and now run 2 console clients as services, have played around with the registry as in the faq-setup guide.
But i still don't get 3000 ppd as fahmon is only showing 1300.
Next step is to start playing round with vista to get some more performance out of it.
I also lost 800 points today as i messed up with 2 nearly compleated WU's :o

I've found one WinSMP client plus one VMWare/Linux client is a good combination. I'm getting around 3200PPD from a Q6600 at only 2.7GHz.
