New Thread Had tooo... Shall I take My macbook back and get a Macbook Pro

I don't know but I see no reason for it to be a different mainboard, so they should be upgradeable to exactly the same specs.

As for shared graphics, just get more RAM :cool:
 
To be honest I don't think £500 is worth 1gb of extra expandability. I doubt anything you're doing will use more than 2gb.
 
For what youll be using it for i cant imagine youd see a worthwhile difference between 2 & 3GB or ram..

Sounds like your wanting someone to say go for it though lol ;)
 
Nope..

Just want honest replies like i have been getting and am great full for it. As it would save me money in the long run :)

If a swap not the idea then i may invest in more memory and a bluetooth mighty mouse. Then possibly a 23" cinema Screen for it instead

Bluetooth Might Mouse
Wireless Printer
20" or 23 " cinema Screen
And a memory Kit to upgrade to 2gb

Think this is a wise choice yeah?
 
As someone who went for the same MBP you are looking it, I agree with most of the people saying to stick with the MB for the work you are doing.

My justifications for choosing the MacBook Pro were:

More screen real estate
More durable shell (which is a very important consideration for me as I take it to and from work by bicycle, do presentations and use it for meetings.
Better suited to development work (I run Dreamweaver and Eclipse which are both fairly memory hungry).
Larger HD drive (with a 20GB bootcamp partition my disk is feeling cramped already and I can forsee a DIY upgrade to 160GB or even 200GB in the near future!)

Again, the point is that the MacBook Pro is a very nice machine but it isn't really worth spending the extra unless you're using it for more serious work.
Also I got mine at HE rates so the MBP cost me £1149 rather than £1349 :D

I would definately keep the macbook - upgrade it to 2gb ram, get a wireless mouse/keyboard set and a nice 24" screen. That's pretty much the setup I am aiming for. Best of both worlds imho... and by the looks of it, plenty of people agree.

Snap.. I go and get my coat on and jump in the car and go and do a bit of shopping :D

I have really enjoyed jumping onto the Mac Wagon.. I am so use to the macbook now and never been on the XP machine since i got it.

Thats not really that big a deal for CPU work - my old Mac Mini and 1.2Ghz PPC iBook did both of them fine.

You say that you don't use games but are worried about the GFX - the GFX is fine for what you want to do - only things a higher spec GFX would get you are games, rendering, higher end mac apps (Shake, Motion etc).

I'd say stick with what you have and put as much ram as your grubby little paws can afford to into that beast. That will make more of a difference in my opinion - the big screen is a plus but if you were really serious about Photography / Web Design you would plug the thing into a larger screen back home and only us the built-in screen on the go.

The MacBook pros are good - my friend has one, and when we got a macbook to review for our website - he said it sadden him that the macbook was so close to his MBP in performance and he had paid £450 more.

Use that money you were thinking of spending, buy ram, bluetooth keyboard and mouse (of your MB has bluetooth that is!) and a 20" display - you'll benefit far more specially when you get home and you can "dock it" into your huge screen!

Apologies for hijacking the thread, i'm sure someone with a MacBook Pro can answer this question pretty quickly though.

I'm holding out for a MacBook Pro until Leopard is released as my faithful Mac Mini is getting a bit dated now and being stuck to a desk all the time isn't the best ... i'm looking at the £1349 model at the moment as i really can't justify spending more than £1,500 on a computer for what i'd be using it for.

My question is: the MacBooks allow you to easily upgrade the RAM and HDD by opening up the battery slot, do the MacBook Pro's have this feature?

Having just done this over the weekend, I'm qualified to say. It's easy in theory, a git in practice because of the tiny screws.

You're right, but 'a handful' translates to 'about twenty' and the main problem I had was putting the case back together. I had hassle lining the case up again so that I could put the outer screws in it.

You'll need to remove the keyboard too, but that's ordinary prising plus being careful not to yank on the cable. Philips size zero and a Torx T6 required.

Though tbh, it cant be any worse than replacing the hard disk in a 12" Powerbook- that was pretty much a full-day job and not one I'd do again in a hurry!

Thats alright, the HDD I probably wouldn't want to upgrade anyway, besides I can always put it into a local reseller if need be. The RAM is a huge plus though, Apples memory is too expensive anyway and it means saving a bit when I first buy it and upgrading it to 3GB in a year or so.

Edit: Manually opening up a laptop does not sound like my kind of thing, something is bound to go wrong :p I'd rather pay someone else for the responsibility :)

to be honest i've got my 120GB drive in the MBP and a 320GB NAS drive at home, so anything that i dont immediately need lives on there. I've also got a USB drive at work so thats that avenue sorted :)

Yeah, at the moment my Mini's HDD is 100GB so i've got a 1TB Lacie Big Disk for holding my iTunes library :)
 
Updates Folks...

I did not have time to post on here till now...

Righto when to the apple store yesterday afternoon I took my macbook and everything just incase ;) Left it in the car thou.

Went into the apple store to have a look at the Screens and I really loved them.. I then wonder over to the Macbook Pro.. Hmm I played with it for about 10 mins and I fell in love with it more than my Macbook..

1 Much easier to type on
2 Honestly I found the touchpad better
3 Colour was much better to my eyes, as you see i posted a thread about this
4 I did fine it a little faster but not that much.
5 The Screen much better nice size 15"

So you guess I have swapped it over and I am loving it a lot more than the Macbook.

I am still getting a 23" cinema Screen :) going to get it end of payday :D

All I got at the moment is the Macbook Pro nothing else. will stick some pictures up when i get screen etc. Am sure people wont just want to see the Macbook it self on it own being bored :D
