I love how they're comparing it to Titan X ( Maxwell ) LOL. Sneaky buggers. Most people will think it means the current Titan X.

Not good news for Vega is it.

If NVidia are releasing this card now it means they are under no pressure to rush Volta out as they don't see Vega as much of a threat to their high end GP102 cards.

NVidia with the launch of the 1080 Ti and the Titan XP are saying that Volta won't be along for the best part of a year,

3840 CUDA cores and 12 GB GDDR5X, so should basically be between 5-10% faster.

Vega is still a month or two away, so Nvidia could easily just be milking all they can out of the Pascal architecture. They could still have Volta ready to be pushed out the door if Vega ends up stealing the performance crown.

Unlike people on these forums NVidia will be fully aware of Vega specs and performance so it won't be any surprise to them.

For NVidia to launch a new a SKU with a shelf life of just one or two months would be silly and a waste of resources.

i find this way too soon, they could have waited for AMD to release Vega.
it's either Vega is more powerfull than we expect and Nvdia is doing a pre-emptive launch.
or Vega is really weak and Nvidia want a redo(pascal vs polaris) of 2016 by burying Vega performance way behind.

This card was always coming no matter what performance Vega is at. Remember these are full chips which would have been manufactured since the start. What else were they going to do with them apart from this.

With the release of the 1080ti Nvidia effectively killed the Titan XP. This should see the new Titan be slightly faster and create a small market for those that just have to get the fastest NV card on the planet.

Nvidia never releases their high-end cards first (volta mid-range would be as fast as the GTX 1080 ti, with the volta high-end being 10% faster). So Volta wouldn't necessarily fare any better if Vega would end up being faster (which gives nvidia more time to respond). Volta titan wouldn't be great either, as the titan isn't in direct competition with Vega.
