Hi Overclocker members,

I'm thinking about building my first PC.
Is there anythin i need to check before buying the hardware?
is there any procedures?
any help would be much appreciated.

im looking to spend no more than 600pound is this possible??

thanks.

You can find a lot of good info to help you build, including pictures to let you know what to expect. Read up as much as possible before beginning. Before you buy, post the bits you're getting one here and someone will check it for you. Just make sure you read plenty and take it slow. If you're not sure, ask. Its simple enough once you've done it before, but to start with its a steep learning curve

Main things to look out for, mainly how to set up your hardware in bios I would think. Plugging the bits together is relatively simple. I'll so ya a spec, what do you want to use it for? Gaming?

Its a bit over budget, but it depends if you need the OS or not...

Get the 2180 instead and overclock it to 3ghz and it will be fine. In a lot of peoples view, either get the 2180 or the Q6600. That would allow you to get 4gb of ram and the 64bit version of the OS and taht is a far better game performance boost then an extra 3mb of cache which has been shown to not really effect current games. Who knows about crysis though.

:EDIT:

Ment to put 4gb but put 3gb

:D What he said...

The motherboard will come with a load of cables for connecting up all the drives, and the power supply willl have all the power ones, so you should be fine. Normally you get far too many cables

I suggest this:

:EDIT:

A few pointers

-Added artic silver to give better thermal conduct and cooling

-Added turniq cooler which is in my opinion the best for the price and only a few degrees off the thermalright ultra which is a lot more expensive

- added the 2180, normaly id do the 2160 but i thought you might be new to overcklocking and the extra multiplyer would help

-This spec is made to be overclocked, we can run you through how to do it ok though.

-Better hard drive i beleive.

-4gb of ram

-The graphics card is the same but only has a 1 year warrenty. (in a year you should be into a dx10 card as that is the furture and i think your going to need a lot more power then this in a year)
