New to Folding / Fahmon

Hey all

After reading an article in custom pc mag, i thought id give this folding@home a try as it seems like a great idea. I think its pretty much setup correctly, im using the 'win32-gpu-systray-620' client with my 8800GT in vista-64bit. Ive also installed Fahmon but when i run it i get the following 2 error pop-ups

Anyone know where im going wrong? thanks in advance for any help

Welcome - should get some nice points with that

At a guess, try moving FahMon outside of the Program Files folder. Vista UAC doesn't like programs writing to the Program Files folder and denies access - that's what I think's happening here.

I'm still on XP but I think it may be due to priviledges. Are you logged on as Administrator when you install FahMon?. Looks like Mattus has beaten me to it. Good luck & welcome aboard.

Thanks Mattus / Pilgrim57, it was the run as admin problem, only got vista a few weeks ago, still getting used to it

Glad you've got it sorted. I'm thinking of upgrading to Vista so as I can use more RAM but from what I've seen there are quite a few problems cause by the run as administrator rule. We're a friendly bunch here

I've had Vista64 for about a week now and had no problems.
Installation creates an Admin account and from there I created another account for me with admin rights and two non-admins for the girlfriend and guests.

I had to do a bit of hunting around for 64bit drivers at first, but I expected that.
So far the whole Vista 64 experience has been far less painful than I anticipated.

Vista64 is great, especially with SP1. Fast and utterly stable, even when being hammered 24/7 by Folding. I really don't think drivers are much of an issue any more, unless you have something really obscure. The only thing I have which doesn't work is a Logitech webcam that must be 6-8 years old. I'd recommend it for any vaguely modern system - just make sure you get lots of RAM. 4GB or more is best.
