Hi All

First, Happy New Year to you all :)

I am new to the world of overclocking and was wondering if you good folk here my be able to help me take my first steps at overclocking.

My System:-

Motherboard:- ASUS P5N-D

CPU:- Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz

Memory:- OCZ 2048 MByts (x2) (Part No OCZ2P1000G) DDR2 (PC2-6400)

Operating System:- Windows 7 (Home Premium) x64

Is my system ok for overclocking?
Has anyone overclocked the same or similar system to mine and what would be the best way to go about it.

Thank you

Regards

Al

Al,

You should be able to get an overclock on your system, the Q6600 generally is an excellent CPU for overclocking. My main concern is your motherboard which has a less than excellent record for overclocking (having a 780i chipset).

I would imagine with adequate cooling you should get to 3.0ghz - 3.2ghz, I would suggest that you read this thread: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17612922

If you have any further questions then post them up

Hi Pneumonic

Thank you for your reply.

So my motherboard is not that good for overclocking, I am not looking to take it to the max but if I could achieve between 3.0 ghz ~~ 3.5ghz I would be happy for now......I think

From the link you posted in the "The Essentials - Software" is it recommended to use an "overclocking tool" / or / "overclocking book" or the settings from another member who has the same set up as me and use their settings posted here ??

Thanks again

Al

Al,

Take a look at this thread to start with: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17779323 shows a whole load of Prime Stable Q6600 overclock's should give you an idea on the voltage required for the CPU..

Information in regards to the overclocking with the P5N-D and a Q6600 is a little sparse!

I have found this thread: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17877458 Although the guy is using a lot of vcore for those clocks... a bit of info here as well: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/page-247140_11_0.html

best to probably have a play around and see where you get to

I personally use the p35c-ds3r by gigabyte and have hit 3.6 quite comfortably, so +1 for gigabyte!

can only reccomend mine as its my first overclock also :D

Any P45 board... my preference is Asus but Gigabytes are solid as well... if you are also 'serious' about overclocking I would get rid of that bit of 'bling' you have for a heatsink :) and get a better one.. but it should see you to 3.2ghz - 3.4ghz on the Q6600
