Hi. As the title states I’m new to all this PC building stuff, so really I have no clue on whats good or not. The primary uses for this PC is for gaming (it would be great if it can run Marvel Rivals smoothly) and just regular old school work.
I’ve done the slightest bit of research and have opted for Lian li a3 matx as my primary case option, as it’s more convenient for my desk which isn’t all too big.
I have a budget of £800, though I’m willing to go for £1000 and slightly over.
Thank you for reading this’s and any help is of great use.

I will leave the internals to the experts, that case looks really nice! I just bought myself a Lian Li case and I think its amazing!!

I have that mobo its on the lower cost level but does the job! Tetras spec looks good.

I am assuming your gaming on a 1080p screen. Is that right or are you thinking of using a 1440p or 4k screen?

Just keep in mind, working in a smaller case does make the build a little more challenging if you're not used to building computers, but if you take your time while building it shouldn't be too much of an issue. Just stop and read up online or in the manual any time you're a bit unsure. I can echo the recommendation of the YouTube channel above. I've been building PCs for years and still refer to his videos from time to time, as it can be easier to work out certain things from seeing rather than reading.

if spending a bit more, below would work with upgrade path in future to x3d cpu

AMD Alternative with a 7800XT gpu...seeing as the 7900/7900xt just launched, you might be able to find a used one for £300-£350 as people upgrade...would have stuck a 7900 non xt in there tbh, but all sold out and price up to £600 now. If you're patient the price should settle down again after initial launch, and if amd continue to ship more units(they saying they're going to)..if nvidia respond and drop their insane prices, then amd should revert back to msrp. If you want an nvidia card a 4070S would be ideal..you'd want 2nd hand sub £450 really but i prefer the 16gb vram of amd
dropped to 1tb ssd as spending more on the gpu, and you can always add a 2nd ssd later
but the wooden fronted A3 case in as that has airflow for front panel(wooden slats on mesh), the black version doesn't(is a solid plastic front)
the 7600 cpu can be had for £189 at mo from shop, but seen one for £155 elsewhere....or if you feel adventurous you can get the 7600 for £120 from import. Comes with stock cooler so could use that and see how performs, or get a cooler such as the spirit above or arctic 36 freezer..not sure on clearance in case though. for me, smaller case I might like a aio to max amount of air inside the case. A giant block of a air cooler might hurt airflow for everything else in case. I'm not an expert on small case builds so someone else might advise better on that ( I liker the look and appreciate but prefer full atx size mobo..full size can still take up similar deskspace to smallewr build, just end up taller)
you can save £10 going non rgb ram, just stuck in there as mesh side so might be nice

anyway, searching around and importing you can get the below for sub £1000, or at leach knock £60 still buying in uk only

Apparently the amd 6060 and 6060xt are launching next month..if you can nab one of those then you'll have access to FSR4 which is leaps ahead of fsr3.1, which is as far as a 7800xt can go (though to be fair it's a great performing card anyway)..but may be worth hanging on a bit.

@Tetras . I've been a bit hesitant over the B580 gpu as it needs to be paired with a modern cpu to get the best performance out of it. older cpu seem to cripple it. Wasn't sure on intel side though

you've prob seen this (the top 2 HU vids,) but more for OP, everyone seems to test the performance drop with older amd cpu. but found the below (third vid) so 12400f performs basically on a par with the 5600x, which in vid 2looks like it'ss beginning to loose performance with the b580 compared to new cpu's. Guessing I'm thinking the 12400f might be leaving a little on the table then with the b580 also. Annoying that intel bring out a decent gpu for price, but then it get a little hamstrung by needing newer cpu etc to run, which defeats the purpose a little. you seen any other info on subject? Trying to fill in mymissing knowledge base on it

It looks like (from the HUB videos) it is somewhat game/resolution dependent, so I find it hard to form a conclusion.

For example: at the moment you lose some performance versus the 4060, but what if the extra 4GB makes things playable and less stuttery in the same game(s) in the future?

It seems obvious that recommending an Arc for an old Ryzen 2000 or Skylake CPU would be a bad idea, but I think a 5600/12400 is fast enough to run it.

I guess you could say: don't recommend an Arc for an older PC or for competitive gaming (e.g. esports) at 1080p, but perhaps for higher resolutions (where the VRAM can be helpful) and eye-candy games (e.g. single player RPG), it is less of an issue.

Thanks a lot man, I’ll look into these a bit more. Much appreciated.

Yeah haha, forgot to specify. Going for a 1080p screen, nothing too crazy.

Based on the videos that craig_d1 linked, if you're going with my spec I'd consider switching out the GPU for an AMD alternative (e.g. 6650 XT) or a 4060, since the likely CPU overhead at 1080p on a 12400 could be a problem.
