i just brought a 500gb Seagate Sata-II hdd along with a Pioneer Dvr-212

before that i was running just a 120gb IDE hdd which is still fine but i thought id make the jump over to SATA

i can run the IDE and SATA togeather on my DS3P but if i use HDtach it seems slow considering its meant to be running at 300

so i removed the IDE drive and have the HDD by itself on SATAII-0 on the board the top most yellow one and as far as im aware i have it set right but im not totally sure.

these are the results im getting and i think are slow as its only just twice as fast as the IDE drive

to clarify my rig is
E6300
Gigabyte DS3P rev 3.3
2gig geil PC2 6400
nvidia 8800 GTS 768

any links to tips or bios settings would be appreciated as i would like to run my ide along side this just for storage but i want the SATA-II to be going full speed (as im sure we all do hehe)

this is the hard drive ive brought HERE

Speeds look correct for a 3AAK firmwared 7200.10. The jumper is still set on the rear of the drive which is limiting your burst speed, if you take it off the burst speed will go up to about 250Mb/s but there won't be any change in the sustained speeds shown on the main graph. I very much doubt you'll notice the change in burst speed though.

If you want to run the two HDDs together just chuck the IDE one back in and make sure the boot priority is set to the 7200.10. Windows should deal with the drive letter assignments etc.

thanks for the info :) i did notice the jumper on the back when installing the drive but i couldnt even see one on it but looking more closely there was one there that is now removed ill run a speed tach in a min and edit this post with the result :)
