Hya folks been messing around with my FM2 A10 5800 build now for about 6months and i think it's time to upgrade it! It's a decent setup but i want something abit more beefy for gaming!

The specs are as follows

FM2 A10 5800
Asus F2A85-V PRO AMD A85X
Asus AMD 6870 1gb
Geil Evo Corsa 8gb 2133mhz
Asus Xonar DS/A 5.1
1tb samsung hd
2tb western digi hd
bog standard DVD drive
cic 650 power supply

all nicely built in a Cooler Master K380.

I use the comp for gaming mainly with the odd bit of music and movies. It handles most games fine, can run most on top whack but it does struggle with the newer games like crysis 3 and such.

I would like to try and tweak the build, i've been playing with the idea of swaping the mobbie and cpu for an intel setup, but having never used intel before i'm abit sceptical, if i was too i would be going for the following

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-228-MS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=2261

But my main question is would it be really worth spending nearly 350 quid? Or would i be better off improving the GPU? The main reason i'm looking to upgrade is even though i have it clocked to 4.4 it does still struggle at times. Will see if the new antec 920 fan helps me push it to 4.8 which is might be better at! But anyhow thoughts and suggestion would be appreciated people!

keep the set up... its a decent spec... just get a new video card, i.e 7850 us a good start, get an ssd and keep your current hdds are storage and get a new PSU and overclock the nuts off the A10... the A10 is a good cpu, and will be a good one for at least another year... you just need to boost its speed and get a good gpu to go along side it

I've been thinking a new PSU, as for SSD i have thought about it but never tried them. What GPU would you recommend then? Haven't read up much on the new ones lately.

depends on your budget really...

PSU wise... i have the XFX Pro550w and couldn't be happier, dual rails, can hit 53amp for cpu and gpu.. lots of cables... and for £55 you cannot complain.

gpu wise, i would go for the 7850 or if you can afford it at around 150ish, gtx660!

ssd... GET ONE NOW I COMMAND YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they are so much faster than normal hard drives, last longer and just ridiculously fast!

Can't agree more with what's been said ......

OC the CPU ... Cooler do you have as you might want to look at upgrading that...

PSU head for the 750 to 850 area if you can as this will give you good room for any OC'ing but go with a good brand as this will pay of in the long run ... Seasonic, corseair, xfx etc any of those will see you alright...

SSD is really a must I'm on my first SSD and it's amazing ... Go 250 gig if you can

As for GPU although I have AMD I also have Nvidia so I don't follow the one is better than the other school so depending on budget I'd go for at least 2 gig and for AMD a 7950 and OC it as that will put it into the realms of a 7970 without spending to much or you could do the same with a Nvidia card ...

Assuming your PSU is a CIT 650 you must currently be pushing it to its limits with a 6870. I would strongly recommend upgrading that.

I would agree that your best course of action is a new graphics card as the A10 is a decent APU.

Thanks for the advice!

Just got a Samsung 840 pro 250gb SSD today, seems a lot faster now! Have yet to test games as atm, i'm reinstaling everything!

As for the power supply it was a CIT650 yes however i've now swapped it for a Powercool 650w modular PSU from a friend, so will see how that runs. The next upgrade will most likely be an MSI twin frozer 3gb 7950, if i really decide to push the boat out.

Oh dear, I think you've jumped out of the frying pan into the fire in PSU terms. The XFX PSU mentioned earlier is a forum favourite & will stand you in good stead for future upgrades. Either of the 2 PSU's you mentioned could fail at any time and possibly take the rest of your hardware out at the same time.

OPPS! Will have to sort that out! The friend a got the powersupply from is abit of a technofobe so thats abit of a suprise. Having now had a chance though to test out the comp on BF3, i have noticed a difference with the SSD. I'll look into getting a xfx psu then, also i thought the MSI 7950 was one of the better 7950's to get>? Seems a fair few people on here have used it with great results!

Also regarding soundcards, got a chance at a Creative Sound Blaster Recon3D Fatal1ty for 45quid, atm i'm running the asus, worth the money for the upgrade?

Woopies! Will get that sorted, the PSU was from a friend who is abit of techie so thought it would be good! Think i might well have to invest in a new case aswell as my coolermaster 380k is getting very cramped, thinking a HAF possibly.

The SSD has made a very big difference on it's own though.

I would recommend getting a new reliable psu as well. I would highly recommend the XFX.
EDIT:Just read that you overclocked your PC. A good psu is essential if your overclocking as well

Got it all sorted i believe the power supply suggested earlier, the HIS 7950 and i'm gunna go for the corsair c70 just for looks!

Well an update guys, just ordered a xfx 650 modular PSU, his icq boost 7950 and a corsair c70 case(it just looks awesome!)
