Hi all im new to the fourms and i already have a question which has been keeping me in the edge for a while now.

My spacs are:
E6600 core 2 duo
asrock conroe esata 2
1 gig ram
160 gb hard drive
X1900 GT (rma)
OCZ modstream 520 watt PSU

firstly my HIS X1900 GT has died its gone for RMA. OCUK said its faulty and its now gone for a replacement and if HIS dont have any X1900 GT becasue they have been discountiuded i get a X1950 PRO !!!!!!!!!!!!!. But its ganna take upto 4 weeks max so pc gaming is a no no at the moment on my geforce 5200.

A few pics for you guys why i sent it back, gawd knows what the problem was.

btw i changed the drivers, rolled them back, reformatted the pc sitll same problem and it happend in all my games and 3d mark.

Because its gone for RMA i saw the 8800 GTS 320mb for £200 this is just in my price range i cant go any higher than this and i was really tempted to get it. But im just ganna wait for my card to come back.

However i still might get it once its back. I want a card that will last me till 2008 and even longer im not to fussed on the settings as long as the games run at a good FPS. Yea not all low settings mid lowest probbly :P hehe.

I run games at 1440 X 990. But before my X1900 GT went for Rma nothing really pushed it i could play all my games at 60 fps or more with AA on 4..... with high settings some games mid - high like company of heros, oblivion, fear etc.

I was happy with my X1900 GT before it went but since its gone for RMA i just dunno weather or not to go with a 8800 GTS 320mb.

Are they worth it ???

I was also thinking to just wait till march see what ATI bring to the table then get a card but lets just stick with the 8800 GTS for the moment.

P.S OCUK have been great with there support and sending the card back to HIS etc thanks OCUK

why not upgrade to 2GB ram first?
yea im ganna get that 2 when i got the ram it was £65 then it went to £89 now its back down again so im ganna get that as well. I will get the gfx card at the same time as well saves the shipping costs ;)

Ive got this ram

the clock speed is 667MHz however in my bios it says 533mhz ????? is that normal.

if you want t run 2GB ram try to get 2x RAM sticks on uour mobo and not 4x sticks.

Reason is the command rate will be 1T with 2x memory sticks :)

Really tight for cash at the moment i can just afford a new gfx card(£200) and some ram for £60. Since im also looking to buy a car and pay the insureance for that becasue i have my test in 4 weeks.

So for temp that ram will have to do till the summer when i build another PC.

then the 8800GTS 320MB BGF OC is a brilliant choice:)

Beats the X1950XTX, and the 7950GX2 and its DX10 capable all for under 200 pounds :)

my mate wants to buy my card once its back for £100 so :D.............Do u think i should wait till the 8900 GTS are out or just go for the 8800 GTS 320mb ?? also if i spill out on the extra cash for the 600 mb version will it last me a little longer ? I need a card to last me till about this time next year on , im not fussed about uber high settings just playable at 60 fps

Welcome to the forums. :)

The 320mb GTS will absolutely destroy the x1900 GT, the GTS is faster than any ATi card out, ATi just cant compete at the moment until they get their R600's out end March, beginning April, if you could wait till then, then i don't see how it would hurt, as you will have more choice, as you'll have the R600's, and Nvidia are going to release their 8900's around then to, so that will push GTS etc... prices down, but theres also no problem in buying a 320mb GTS now if you want one, ive just bought one to replace my x1800 XT 512mb, and jesus what a performance increase, it absolutely destroys it in everyway, and the res your at the GTS will just cut through everything in its wake for a long, long time, the 320mb GTS is great upto 1600x1200, and also the price is absolutely staggering, £200 for such amazing performance is phenomenal. :)

I doubt you would need the 640mb Ram at your resolution, i game at 1280x1024 which is higher (i think), and i see no differnce going from 512mb down to 320mb, i can still play Oblivion maxed everything, HDR on the lot and its perfectly fine in 320mb, runs the same as it did on my 512mb x1800, only differnce is on the GTS it looks miles better due to better iq, and runs a helluva lot faster. :D

yea from the reviews the 8800 GTS looks great.....but heres the problem lol.

1. i can sell my card once its back to my mate for £120 and get a 8800 GTS

2. Wait till march april for the 8900 and ati cards. Sell my card to my mate for £80

so when i go from ATi to nvidia what do i need to do.

of course get rid of the ATI drivers what else. I herd some people said the best thing to do is format but that takes ages :(.

I never formatted, all i did was go to add/remove, remove the display driver (dont reboot if it asks), then i removed the CCC then rebooted into safe mode, then i ran the Catalyst Uninstaller in safe mode to get rid of the rest of the traces, then switched off popped in the GTS, powered up and installed the latest Nvidia 97.92's, working great with no problems. :)

well before my card went for RMA i uninstalled the ATI drivers and CCC :).............to start a fresh. Can u lot tell me of any programs that get rid of traces from the registry because i dont really wanna go into there and get rid of stuff rather have a program mess around and do it.
