right, i need a "portfolio" website,, plus general use..


I have a wordpress at the moment, which I'm just toying with (www.psypher5.co.uk) but I don't like how its all blog related, with comments bars etc below everything. However I do like a blog option. I quite like the theme atm (ive messed with the text colour adding the blue, as i go on ill tweak the images and incorp the blue more)

I'd ideally like to be able to make a front page, and be able to make a blank page, so i can just plonk a load of images in a table for instance.

For use with a portoflio, so i can just show a set of images without the "comment" options etc.

could anyone help? f i need to explain stuff i will

Have a look at NextGEN Gallery plug-in for displaying your images.

Then I suppose you'll want All In One SEO and Contact Form 7 as a starting point.

It doesn't have to be. You can do some fairly impressive things with WP.

I'd suggest searching for some themes which have similar content and layout to how you would like yours and then going through the files to see how they created it.

Lightbox is a must but I had some issues with it in 2.9.2 in terms of it not activating. If not, use NextGEN gallery as above.

My site is using wordpress (www.hardwarespot.co.uk), play around with the CSS and HTML and the HUGE amount of plugins out there and you can get it looking just how you want.

The best content management system out there, by far.

i decided to stuff wordpress and go it alone! Mainly as i don't really "need" any main features... I just need basics And I spose i'll be a good learning curve.

Not really. Its a skill to be honest.

You can slice and make an image map but that is cheating and isn't really the done thing.

Learn some HTML & CSS.

Its quite smart. Blue and grey work well.

I think the header is smaller than the huge icons! And you haven't thought about the content that is going into the page yet.

Also, the way you have written Psypher5 with that style, there is no way of telling its a 5. You either need to make the blocks smaller so you can curve the bottom of the 5 or choose a different font if you don't want new people to think it says PsypherS.

that just a contact page, so gmail icon brings up a contact form in the lower area, and the other icons (mouse over makes them blue, while the others are greyed out) highlight a link/username with clickable icons. If you get me?!

Agreed about the 5/S, tried to keep it "pixelated" as its not a font, its just hand painted in over the blocks behind it, hmmm. Will have a ponder.


this is the latest, havent touched it for a few days though. Was just messing about, the "dear tom" theme is carried out throughout the site, with a "hello..." and "welcome..." on home/about pages. It made me chuckle anyway. :

EDIT:

cutting out the 5/S and adding a normal font 5 works, ill just stylise it a bit more. gives a nice contrast to the straight edged psypher too.
