Hi guys,

I have been having noise issues with my H100 from a recent build, and have decided to RMA and to go ahead with a custom loop. As I am very much a beginner at this, I thought it might be best to check that am not making any rookie mistakes with regards to part choices.

Here is my basket after a few hours research. It will be fitted in a 650D with IB. Are these components suitable, or do you have any recommendations for changes?

Thanks,
Nick

I'd agree on getting compression fittings. And would also recommend to use some other mayhems coolant, than the Aurora. It's great coolant, but is designed for only very short term use. You'd be better off with Mayhems Pastel or X1. I know they don't look as awesome though :(

This would also be a better choice IMO if you prefer the tube res:

Again needs the fluid (didn't add fluid for the reason Toothy gave)

@wissel I think I prefer a tube res for aesthetics, but can see how a bay might be more practical. How does the block in that kit compare to the EK Supereme HF? I'll have a think and go for one of the options you suggested.

I've also heard that barb fittings are safer than compression. Is there any truth in that?

@Toothy Thanks for the heads up. Will swap is out for one of the pastel coolants.

wouldnt get the aurora it doesnt last long mainly used for show casing a build, the XSPC kit that was linked above is a great bit of kit

Leaning more towards the XSPC kit right now. Unfortunately the 650D doesn't have an easy place to just slot in a cylinder res, so I'd need to drill a few holes in the motherboard tray. I'd prefer less hassle for my first loop.

@Toothy That's what my initial thoughts were. Maybe the source was just unreliable.

Thanks for the help in deciding everyone, will put in an order later tonight.

I got the XSPC RayStorm D5 RX360 WaterCooling Kit last week. I stuck in an extra 120mm rad too. Really happy with my first loop and XSPC seems like a well respected brand among the experts. I was always a bit scared of WC but having done it once I'm plotting the next. The kit makes life easy for us beginners to get into it. Then as usual spend another few hundred quid as we delve further into it.
I came from the H100 and the difference is night and day performance and visual.

I think you read barbs and compressions backwards. Compressions are MUCH safer than barbs unless you use cable ties of some description on your barbs.

Also why EX and not RX? RX is full depth rad?

Definitely not getting aurora, and going for the XSPC kit mentioned in wissel's first post.

Quick question, will 1L of coolant be enough to fill the loop?

XSPC kit came today :)

Perhaps a stupid question, but do I need to use a specific hole on the D5 dual bay res as an inlet? There is a raised ring around the top hole, but can't see anything to suggest that either one should be used.

EDIT: Answering my own question, top one is the outlet according to the manual on the XSPC website: http://www.xs-pc.com/manual/d5bayres2.pdf

On the back the upper hole (outlet) is to go to your rad and the lower one is the inlet back in from the loop. The middle with the opaque screw is cosmetic light. Make sure that's tight.
