Not if you put butter on the pan whilst it is frying. That's call fried bread, not toast.

I think that should have readtoast is toast
- MAYbetoast means toast
you are not a relation/fan of Jamie Oliver ?
Toaster's have a small footprint too, AS Raymond said they are fast, and also cheaper operating costs:
1Kw toaster 1 slice/day ~ 3mins , 10 years = 182Kw = £18, 3kW grill 6mins ? £108, so my £30 toaster is payed for,
and if I cannot multi-task 182 hours better off than watching toast under grill.
Fried bread is completely different, I'm afraid. If you eat nothing but toast then get an electric toaster but using a cast iron frying pan gives you so many options.
I'm not a huge fan of Jamie Oliver but I'll admit that video has given me a craving for that particular take on a grilled cheese.

None of these toasters will toast as well as a hotel style conveyor toaster, may as well just use the grill![]()
Or bypass the cheap models for mere home use and get a commercial one yourself: https://www.nisbets.co.uk/catering-appliances/cooking-equipment/conveyor-toasters/_/a33-3

I picked up a new 4 slice Morphy Richards Accents toaster yesterday. It gets rave reviews on the rainforest, 9 pages of how marvellous it is.

Last night I tried out some brown polish bread I had and wasn't very impressed with the toasting.
So I've just returned from the supermarket armed with one small loaf of brown bread and one small loaf of white to see how even they both toast and if white toasts better than brown. I generally don't buy white bread, this is just for testing purposes.

I first warmed the toaster on setting 5. The max setting is 7. This took three and three quarter minutes for the levers to pop back up. I then took the setting down to about 3.8 and popped one slice of medium brown in and one thick slice of white, supermarket own version of Warburton's Toastie. This took two and three quarter minutes. for the toast to pop up.
Here is the result of both sides of each slice.

This isn't much better than my old toaster so I'm disappointed. This isn't very even at all so how are so many people singing it's praises for even browning of their toast? Something I'm doing wrong?
