They're not retro, they're trying too hard to be retro. They're the footwear equivalent of ripped/torn and otherwise distressed jean that can be bought these days.
Nope, not keen on the shape and styling.. or the colour either actually.
I'm after a pair of these below, I can't seem to find them in size 12 anywhere though :/.

I take your point that they are trying a little bit too hard...but they're still retro.

Ha, they look better in real life rather than in that picture
. I'm a firm believer that lacing up a trainer in a certain way, makes a trainer! If it's laced up badly, it looks baaayd!
