They are just as much trainers as the one's you post but then I doubt the thread would have reached 14 pages had it been restricted to the footwear we go running in.

Trainers are 'training shoes' ie, those you wear while taking part in a sport. Not just running.

All of those I have posted (bar the TUKs) fall into this bracket, being used for basketball, skateboarding, tennis et cetera.

Nice attempt though. 4/10 - must try harder.

First of all where did I put that yours weren't trainers? Secondly, if those converse aren't 'training shoes' does it not seem strange that are a form of baseball shoe?? And lastly, I apologise for not listing every single sport that can be played whilst wearing trainers. I thought that running would suffice as it is done in the participation of most sports.

Ouch. Denied.

Yeah...okay....

Do you suffer from short term memory loss? :/

1, they aren't a training shoe
2, they are a recreational 'beach' shoe
3, they aren't any form of 'baseball shoe'

And lastly, I apologise for not listing every single sport that can be played whilst wearing trainers. I thought that running would suffice as it is done in the participation of most sports.

Apology accepted.

Plimsolls are a classic "training" shoe though. Did you never have to do gym at school? :)

I think Foyman's point was that if you are going to deny that a classic athletic shoe (i.e. plimsolls) are trainers, then you shouldn't include lots of the other styles of shoe in this thread. But he was arguing that all (or the majority) of the shoes were valid, including plimsolls...

Lastly, I think picking on the (albeit incorrect) mention of Converse shoes being to do with baseball is a bit tenuous. Fine, so the All-Stars were basketball shoes. But that's still very much a "trainer", by your definition... Especially as you explicitly state that basketball is an acceptable sport for a shoe to be allowed to be acknowledged as a Penski Trainer(TM). ;)

They are a recreational shoe designed for use on beaches in the nineteenth century and used to torment kid's feet until the age of six.

Show me a modern athlete who wears them as a serious training or competitive shoe for any sporting discipline and I will happily admit that I am wrong. :)

The way I look at it is that if they have been used as a training or competitive shoe since the sixties (when the term 'trainer' was introduced) and are still used now then they are a 'trainer'.

If not, they aren't.

Simple, really.

converse are known to be baseball shoes but before they were even baseball shoes they were used by basketball players also. hence the name Chuck Taylor a baseketball player then later lent his name to the shoes which are shortnamed "chucks"

time doesnt change a pair of shoes, if theyre "trainers" they'll always be trainers no matter what century we're in.

Tom84, i still havent even got a email fro OD saying its getting dispatched, its still "processing" :( theyre taking their time over this!!

Surely the definition of "trainers" would be "athletic Shoe"...if this is the case the Cons would certainly be considered to be trainers wouldnt they?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Converse_(company)

an extract of said article.

but it wasn't until 1915 that the company began manufacturing athletic shoes for tennis. The company's main turning point came in 1917 when the Converse All-Star basketball shoe was introduced

My collection only consists of 6 pairs for now. Shortly going to add another pair of Forest Hills and some Adidas Tobacco's. Nowt else has caught my eye yet :p

Just got back from the States (Orlando & Miami) after a mad shopping spree. I absolutely love trainers and a lot of the stuff there will never hit these shores.

So yeh I got 14 pairs of Jordan's and Air Force's ;)

Pics.

Jordans are gash but whack out the AFs...

I had a huge gym bag full of them as well as in my 2 mahoosive suitcases. Virgin even let me on with 2 bits of hand luggage.

Give me 5 mins and I'll do the pics...

Apologies for the quality, taken on my Berry. The ones in second row on the left are a bit special, custom made for me for $60. I know a guy here that does custom AF's for like £150!!

The AF1 colourways aren't much but I'd like to see closer pics of the custom ones :)

I need to get my custom groove back on. Practice makes perfick.
