Hey chaps,

Im after a new TV...id like it to be 37" and must have Freeview HD built in as i dont want to have to get a seperate box for Freeview HD.

My budget is £400

Anyone have any suggestions?

I seen a few Toshiba ones for £360 ish fitting what i m looking for but ive heard the 37" toshibas have known buzzing issues

cheers :)

Hi,

Well i dont know all that much about TVs,I heard that LED looks better than LCD but costs more, also that Plasma is decent but can leave permanent ghosting on the screen? is this true?

Like i said i dont know much about Tvs,So looking to get advice on the best specced tv for my budget. :)

appreciate the help

Anything less than 42" then the choices are either LED or LCD. There are no small plasma screens.

yes this is true LED is better than LCD and if your goin to have this tv for the next 5 years i wud suggest an LED.

Plasma from 46 inch upwards are good, and regarding the ghosting , its only if you leave something on for hours , such as sky sports news where you have the scrolling aliong the bottom.

i will take a look at some tv's and post back ok.

That's a pretty broad-brush statement.

There are different types of LED screen, so it's not safe to assume that an entry level screen will perform the same as a top of the range screen simply because it is LED. It's also not safe to assume that an entry level LED will outperform an entry level LCD. The best anyone can do is get some simple pointers to the differences and then go have a look.

Here's what you need to know on LEDs...

Edge Lighting vs Direct Backlight - This is the first point of difference. Cheaper sets use edge lighting because it costs less.

White LED vs RGB LED - White LEDs don't really exist. They're actually a pale blue colour. This means that anything that should be white in yyour TV picture will also be pale blue, and all the colours on your TV screen will be tinted slightly blue as well. White LED is cheaper than RGB LED. The benefit with RGB LED is better colours, but it costs more money. [LCD doesn't have this problem. The colour tone is far more accurate compared to white LED]

Non-Dimming vs Local Dimming The best screens have direct backlight LEDs that can be switched on and off in sections across the screen area. Imagine a star field. The LEDs could be on only where the stars are twinkling and off everywhere else for the best blacks.

Bringing this all together you can see that the cheaper sets will be non-dimming edge-lit white LED.

Cheers il check that out. ;)

EDIT-Is it just be but none of those TVs on the site are Freeview HD built in?...all the 37" ive looked at only have freeview. :/
