New TV required

Yeah, any electric screen that isn't tab tensioned is likely to have ripples, or develop them over time. Cue weird shimmering effects in panning shots and some distortion. Screens are actually the harder buy imo - the pj is the easy part. Either way, if the screen is white and it's in an untreated room, you're going to absolutely crucify your black levels. Like cheap, decade old lcd grey black levels. Which takes you into the world of room treatment or awesome, yet uber expensive grey screens. For what it's worth - I budget around the same amount for a screen as I do for a new projector. A good screen will last you forever/multiple projectors.

Going back on topic. Have a look at https://www.avforums.com/ , http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/ and http://uk.rtings.com/ , snips86x. Anything current, in budget and well reviewed on these sites will be a step up from what you have. Things have moved forward a good deal in the last 7 years. If gaming is a concern make sure you keep an eye on the input lag of the panel.

sorry for the hijack OP

I went for the jvc x500 to replace my stolen X7 a couple of years ago , can you not paint a wall with "screen paint" ? keeping a electric screen taught is the issue , but React have that nailed, but like you say at a cost !

the room I want it to go in the only option I have is for an electric screen. Which may mean I abandon the idea if I can't find a cheap electric screen that is semi decent. Ebay has some for £100 but they aren't highly reviewed and had dirty effect issues.
