New tv time. Help?

Our main tv room currently has an 10 year anniversary old Samsung quantum dot tv. It sucks vs all our other tv and atmos setups. So time for a new tv!

I couldn’t get an OLED in there since the wife pauses content endlessly. Micro RBG could be a good shout? I generally quite like Samsung TVs, although undecided if I want to be without Dolby vision or not. Possibly the MRE65R85H, undecided whether to go bigger as we sit quite close.

Probably in combination with the HW-Q990F Atmos setup.

Am I missing anything much better or not considering something?

It makes the decision more complicated than it needs to be.

Tell me about, welcome to my world of hell too.
So get this

I'm allowed to buy cars (check)
Holidays solo or with mates (check)
Livinging room TV or even a monitor upgrade and all hell breaks out. WTF man !

Anyway sorry for hijacking the thread but if I had the option I would go OLED, I'm pretty sure they still do some form of subtle pixel movement/alteration to help prevent screen burn

I would absolutely be buying an LG OLED if this wasn’t the case. It makes the decision more complicated than it needs to be.

If the pausing is going to be of content watched through built in apps, then I would assume the newer TVs still dim like the old ones to stop burn in issues due to that (not sure about external content, mine doesn't but maybe newer ones do)

This is so annoying right ? Why do they do it ?
I'm considering a home assistant automation to turn the TV off if it has been paused
I have an LG OLED from 2023 and when paused on any input, a black screensaver runs after a couple of minutes. It displays a clock and some text that also reappears in a different position on screen each time it switches between the two.

This telly is 3 and a half years old and has been used a lot, no sign of any burn in and I've left that screensaver running for quite a while at times, sometimes a couple of hours.

Given this experience, I'd say telly manufacturers have nailed the burn in issues.

Size?

Edit. I see you mentioned 65.
Just go OLED as stated man. Bargains to be had, even if they are are spying on you.

I'd avoid LG like the plague.

Right now, I am note sure who I'd go with, seems many companies are listening and doing many nefarious things with your info. Maybe get a nice monitor and connect it to a Sky box or similar.

Think you are living in 10 years ago OLED world. Burn in just doesn't happen anywhere nearly as much or as easily as it used to, and you can have more aggressive dimming, or screensaver settings if you wish.

I hadn’t thought about screensavers. I’ve switched them off on my gaming OLEDs, but you are right, I also don’t have any burn in despite a few thousand hours of static HUDs.

65 or 75 I think. 65 is probably big enough, we sit very close.

Was going to go with the S90F, but it sits too low on the stand for the 990F soundbar. The S85H is probably still miles better than what we have in the main room. I mean, our mini LED TV from a few years ago looks miles better than the decade old quantum dot, so it would still be an upgrade.

Wall mounting not an option.

I could also wait until the Black Friday sales I guess.

Looking at sizing options and space on my tv bench, I think the S90F would work along with a slightly downgraded Q930F that will fit in front without blocking the low sitting S90F. Also means I get QD OLED which I love in my gaming room.

Sounds like you have a good deal overall! We have to pick our battles!

S90F 65" is a decent deal at £1100 t to be fair.

How harmful is pausing these days? We have had an LG OLED since the PS5 launched, it often gets paused, TV seems fine.

I though in the issue was when the tv was stuck on the same scree for a lnog time? pausing the tv doesnt normally do that. e.g if you pause a film a few times, it is a different scene each time. Surely most of the better oled will switch to screensaver if left too long?

Or I go 77 and even the 990f fits. Depends whether it’s worth the extra cost I guess.

Massive bang for buck and a huge upgrade. Sound too over our really old 5.1 system.
