Hi guys first off i must apologize this is one of those I need a new tv thread.

Our old tv a LG 60uh850v Bought back in 2016 (i think) We were happy with this tv tbh. but alas one of my grandchildren decided it would be funny to throw a toy at it.
Anyhow tv is now broken and we need a new one,

the budget i have is around £1200.

We mainly watch movies and the wife plays the odd Nintendo Switch game. we will be looking into getting either one of the new Xboxes or PlayStation 5s at some point down the road.
We would use the tv at all times of the day and night. we are already used to having to close the curtains because of the sun making daytime tv a pitta.

We have all of the streaming services and Sky q. and have a Blu-ray player connected. and again looking to get a 4k Blu-ray player.

So far i am looking at the LG OLED C2 55.
as i have said above we had a 60-inch would we notice the 5-inch difference going from a 60-inch to a 55-inch?

And this will be our first Oled i know this is going to most probably be a silly question but i would imagine the quality should be a massive jump up ?.

In an ideal world, i would love to step up to the 65-inch but funds won't allow it atm (the wife would be just as happy with a 40-inch no name brand tv).
I have seen several wites selling a 65-inch LG OLED65CS6LA, and one even included a free LG S75Q soundbar for £1399.

Thank you for reading

OLED is a fantastic technology, but in your situation, it sounds like you’d get a better viewing experience going for a FALD 65 inch TV over OLED.

Here’s why I think that:

Direct sun behind TV (even though you can close curtains)
You don’t game that much
You’re having to drop to 55 inch to get an OLED
You don’t sound like “enthusiasts” - I.e. is ultimate picture quality the most important thing? It doesn’t sound like it is for you

Hence, my recommendation would be the QN85A + a decent sound bar.

I think this would provide you with a good viewing experience (I have an 85A at my family’s property in Spain, and it’s excellent) and decent sound option too.

Thank you for the reply.
Yes, picture quality is very important to me and my grown children.

One thing that really bothered me was when watching a tv at night the black/dark scenes were sometimes almost grey, We actually watch a lot of movies. Hence why i was looking at an OLED now they are a lot cheaper than when we first got our old tv. We also found that we enjoyed Dolby Vision over standard 4k ultra etc. (Even the wife often commented about it)

Okay, in which case perhaps the OLED would be best.

The thing about OLED is that even though the brightness isn't as high as an LCD, the much more accurate, pixel level contrast control results in a higher perceived peak brightness. I have a 65 inch S95B and before that an LG CX and before that an LG B8.

I wouldn't touch LCD again.

This looks to be the best deal: https://www.richersounds.com/lg-oled65cs6la.html

Should come out at 1349 with the soundbar mentioned and code FREES75Q

If you can stretch to 1349, it's what I would buy, given the extra information you've provided.

The "LG OLED55C14LB" can be had "In store" for £799 if you look around (the deal is on-line)...that's a lot of TV for £799..
If you can stretch a little the "LG OLED65CS6LA" can be had for £1399, I don't think this has a 120Hz screen, but as your not gaming I don't think you'll notice a difference, comes with a free sound bar as well...

Edit better info above! :)

Can give you a code at Panasonic to get a 65" TX-65LZ800B OLED for £1274.15. As per usual Panasonic is always tuned to perfection and will do all the video and audio codecs.

I've seen conflicting information about the 120 Hz

It should do, because it's essentially a rebranded CX, and being a C level OLED, I would expect it to offer 120 Hz.

Only the A series OLEDs have not had a 120 Hz display since the BX/CX/GX series.

Oled is plenty bright enough, granted I close curtains but I don't have oled backlight at 100% nor do I have it at 100% for HDR (which apparently you should do) you burn your eyes out

I have a 65 B9 (2019 TV, as far as I know the first LG OLED with 2.1 HDMI - it's when/why I decided upgrade) and my Dad has the 65 C9, both have 120Hz and VRR, as you say I'm pretty sure only the "A" range has the 60Hz screen...happy to be corrected!

I'm not sure the c9 has full support, I thought it does 120hz 4k but not vrr and the other feature, low lag or something?

Unfortunately I wouldn’t be surprised if LG imposed a limitation on the CS.

Furthermore, due to the way HDMI labelling now works, you can’t be sure if a TV has a 120 Hz display just due to the fact it has HDMI 2.1 ports.

This is because HDMI 2.0 brand has been replaced with 2.1 and then the multiple features are added on top if they so choose.

Stupid, and overly complex.

Hello,
just to confirm my B9 has all the bells and whistles of 2.1 (4k 120Hz VRR, DV gaming), confirmed via my XBOX X, it's the reason I went for the TV, pretty sure LG was the first to implement these features.

Hope this helps...

Cheers,

Well, thank you guys for the replies. i decided to order the 65-inch LG OLED65CS6LA. with the LG S75Q soundbar,

Although me looking around and thinking the tv went up to £1499. i managed to get it price matched from another retailer for £1399.

Even though i emailed telesales to see if they would price match. and the reply i got was the following"
Many thanks for your email below.

Any chance of at least a good 5.1 speaker system?

Does anyone own this tv with a Soundbar ?.
This time because we have moved house the tv will not be mounted on the wall so will be on a stand, and i was wondering if there was enough height on the tv stand to accommodate a soundbar. i have noticed some TVs now come with an adjustable tv stand for this reason.
