just had a new set of proxes on the mondeo, I asked them to balance the old ones, which were shifted to the front of the car and new ones on the rear.

I didn't bother with tracking, should I get it checked?

Lots of tyre places apparently recommend you do this, reduces your chances of spinning apparently. I choose to ignore their advice myself.

Tesla, any Mondeo bits left or is it all gone? Need a MAF sensor

leonlane2000 at hotmail.com MSN/mail me if you get the chance.

Yeah, they were recommending me to fit the new ones on front, but they had a poster in the shop from michelin which reccomended new on the back, so I did that.

Surely as the front wheels are responsible for steering and controlling the speed then the better tyres should be on the front?

Added you to MSN Leon but I don't have a MAF - Sold it, sorry. Anything else though? I have a few odd bits...

Yeah, but if your going round a corner or something, wouldnt the rears stay stuck to the ground?

Don't bother getting the tracking done, but a 4 wheel geometery setup using a computerised alignment setup is a good idea, especially if your front tyres didn't wear entirely evenly - both my Mk3's have worn the inside edges slightly more than the rest of the tyre. I took the ST for a full geometry setup and the rear toe was uneven which was causing me to drive with the steering wheel ever so slightly off centre to compensate which had caused the offside tyre to wear a bit unevenly. Tracking alone would never had picked this up, in fact the guy who did the job said he suspected the tracking had been adjusted before I bought it because the front toe was perfectly even but set incorrectly - Mk3's are best with the front wheels set parallel, ie. no toe at all. Cost me £65 but the car felt better and now doesn't tramline like was doing on rough surfaces.

As for new tyres on the front or back, it's a difficult one and there is probably no right or wrong answer. I always have new tyres put on the back because my cars tend to be light on rear tyres and if I kept swapping the fronts the rears would be years old before they were changed and rubber degrades over time.

What good is having traction on the rears if you cannot control the direction and speed of the vehicle?

Also, understeer is safer than oversteer.

Its a lot easier to control understeer than oversteer.

meh, michelin recommended it, so I am pretty sure it was the correct decision.

my local costco refuse to fit tyres to the front!

my tyres wore unevenly, the fronts were worn more down the middle, which apparently is due to overinflation, but I kept the tyres inflated and the level which is indicated in the filler cap thingy.

What level is that?

Mondeo is around 32PSI. I find that the best.

What if it's an RWD or 4WD car?

When you buy 4 tyres, do they make you fit the front ones yourself?! :p
