Hey Guys

I wiped out a badly messed up XP installation on my friends PC and installed 7.10.

Now I certainly not an Expert in this Linux lark....

But I thought that was that. Until he rang and said youtube wont work. I fixed this by installing Flash etc.

Now he's txt me again said no audio files I dragged over from a backup cd will play? This is using the Mplayer already installed on ubuntu.

Plus he has also said youtube video's are extremely slow?

What do you think? Does it still need a video display driver? (An old GeForce 420) as well as some form of audio pack?

Thanks for any help.

Did you install the restricted (graphics) driver ?

For audio.. Install amarok. when he clicks on an mp3 it will go and fetch the codec

VLC, has lots of codecs built in for audio and video.

And Envy is good for installing graphics drivers, as it does it all for you.

Not sure if they will solve the slow YouTube problem.

my installation worked straight out of the box, apart from getting the g-streamer good/bad/ugly plugins from the repo's which was dead easy. then mp3's etc worked. even sound juicer complied and i was able to rip mp3s without any trouble!

as he said, go to add/remove search for Gstreamer and install all the plugins that come up. Easy

I wouldn't use Amarok, Its got more buttons than enough. If you don't like Rhythmbox use Songbird.
