New UFC Game by THQ

Looks like a cut scene, but i'd imagine the game would be somewhat similar(much like fnr3 cut scenes).
Can't wait for this one, Rampage has been doing a lot of the press work for this, he's a big fan :) hope it's a bit more realistic than it looks, seems like every move they do is a fight finisher.

UFC was so rubish on the Dreamcast... Fights lasted like 10 secs before i could get them into an armbar and make them sumit...

Well I've been keeping an eye out for new info on this since I posted this thread back in September and things seem to be all quiet :( still........

Seems like its taking forever but seems to be that we should have some juicy details in just over 3 weeks time......

THQ to Reveal UFC Video Game at UFC 84

THQ, the video game developer that won a contract to develop the Ultimate Fighting Championships' new video game, has planned its first reveal of the game for UFC 84 -- an event that takes place Memorial Day weekend on Saturday, May 24.

The news comes from THQ's recent financial/stockholder conference call.

More than a year ago, MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) passed along the news that THQ had signed a five-year contract with the UFC. The famed game maker earned exclusive rights to publish UFC video games through the end of 2011 for all console and portable platforms, as well as wireless devices.

According to company executives, they'll reveal their work to date at UFC 84, which features a main event of UFC lightweight champ B.J. Penn vs. former champ Sean Sherk. The event takes place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. The company is also expected to reveal the game at its own media event that same weekend.

A release date for the game will likely be announced during the UFC 84 unveiling, as will an official name for the game. The title has been referred to as both "UFC 2009" and "Ultimate Fighting Championship 2009" over the past year.

THQ plans to make the upcoming title an annual release (similar to the successful Madden football line of games), assuring the game and its roster of fighters stay fresh. The first version of the game is expected to feature current and past UFC champions and other notable fighters. For much of the past year, many UFC fighters -- including newbies from "The Ultimate Fighter" reality series -- have been scheduled for appointments with THQ to be modeled into game characters.

THQ, founded in 1989, has exclusive deals with companies such as World Wrestling Entertainment, Nickelodeon and Disney Pixar. The company has produced approximately 200 game titles to date.

Sorry for the bump but this game looks bloody brilliant. It's about time they start to think about releasing this game. I would deffo pay to get this game.

Dare I say this... I know this will create an outrage with some of the EA haters on here...

But I was semi hoping EA were going to do the next UFC game, after what they did with Fight Night: Round 3 anyway.

Some ideas:

They should use the analogue sticks for mounts and guards. Perhaps holding RB or R1 and using the right analogue stick punches, not holding RB/R1 and using the right stick will kick.

The blood/cut mini game that EA put in between rounds in fight night... it's a nice little touch.

Cuts and bruises should effect the way a fighter fights (again ala FN:R3). If I get a solid hard kick to the leg, I want to see my character limp around the ring for a while and any attack after that should be more painful than normal.

Knock out moments, if I get a stinking shot to the head I want my character to look and feel groggy knowing that another well timed shot could well take me out.

One punch or one kick knockouts. I don't think any UFC game has really nailed this properly... if I do a supremely hard and well timed kick to my opponents head. I don't want his health to simply go down, I want him to be knocked the **** out.

A decent career mode similar to what EA's FN:R3 did. Start at amature and work your way up... heck even start fighting people in something like Ultimate Fighter perhaps?

Bin health/stamina meters from the HUD. I mean really, in this day and age... why the heck do we need to see that my opponent has got low health, why should I need to be told my character's stamina is running low?

If my stamina is low, make my character sluggish, kick slower/softer, punches get weaker and miss more often. Breathing increases and movement gets slowed. I want to see my character have no stamina, not be told he's got none.

I want to visibly see that my opponents health is low, he'll be a bit more defensive... visible bruising on the areas where I've attacked all fight, blood if need be.

Again, it's something FN:R3 did really well... it should be standard for realistic fighting games on this generation surely?

As much as I like the Smackdown series by THQ... if they're going to do a UFC game, it better not be an arcade game. I want realism!

A release date has not been confirmed, there is just a wide time frame put in place; i think it was a vague as spring or something.

There are new videos that are up now, gameplay videos that show off some great features in the cage.

Taken from GameSpot (sacrilege i know :D)

It's been well over a year since THQ announced its plans to make Ultimate Fighting Championship games, but the only details known about the publisher's first entry into the Octagon were that it would arrive on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in the spring of 2009. Today the publisher revealed a few more specifics about the game, including the full title and first features.

When it arrives next year, UFC 2009 Undisputed will feature more than 80 licensed fighters pulled from all five of the league's weight classes. For players who can't find the perfect combatant in that roster, THQ is including a create-a-fighter option as well as a career mode to help take a rookie scrub all the way to the UFC Hall of Fame.

The game's visuals won't be limited to two fighters squaring off in a cage, as THQ is promising to surround the fighters with trainers, commentators, announcers, refs, and ring girls, to name a few. Finally UFC 2009 will also support downloadable content, though what form that will take has yet to be revealed.

While THQ remains cagey on who is developing the UFC's return to consoles, it has confirmed to GameSpot that Russia studio G5 is creating the mobile-phone version of the game. The same group is also working on mobile adaptations of upcoming THQ titles Red Faction 3 and Saints Row 2.

It's looking pretty solid, still over a year out though so give it time on the animations and such.
