Dr David Clarke (one of the few academics in Britain with an open interest in UFO reports) has announced that the UK's National Archives has released a new batch of the British Government's UFO files.

UFO files reveal close encounter

A boomerang-shaped object seen from an airport control tower and a woman's encounter with an "alien" are among the secrets revealed in official UFO files.

The woman reported seeing a glowing, spherical object rise into the air in Norwich after meeting a man who said he came from a planet similar to Earth.

In another sighting, a triangular craft hovered then "shot off at 500mph".

The third set of UFO documents to be released by the Ministry of Defence covers the period from 1987 to 1993.

Revealed: How the government probed Britain's greatest UFO mystery

Declassified government files have revealed how Ministry of Defence (MoD) officials launched a top-level probe into a diamond shaped aircraft seen hovering above a Scottish village.

Officials were so alarmed by the object, which was captured on camera, that they broke with established procedures and referred the sighting to ministers.

They also overrode rules prohibiting investigations into UFO sightings not considered an immediate threat to national security, and spent more than a year trying to crack the still unexplained mystery.

Photographs taken of a UFO hovering next to an RAF jet over Scotland were treated very seriously by military investigators, newly-released Ministry of Defence files show.

Witnesses saw the mysterious large diamond-shaped object hanging in the air for about 10 minutes before it ascended vertically at high speed.

Military experts concluded the aircraft was a Harrier, but could not identify the UFO despite apparently commissioning detailed line drawings of it.

Aliens in UFOs have visited Earth, says David Cameron
David Cameron said he "was convinced" the Earth had been visited by aliens has vowed to publish any secret files that may exist on UFOs if he becomes prime minister.

Mr Cameron, speaking at one of his regular Cameron Direct meetings, where he takes the public's questions, joked that Business Secretary Lord Mandelson was one of the alien beings.

The Conservative leader promised to be "entirely open and frank" about what the Government knows about close encounters after he was questioned about a spate of mysterious incidents at the meeting in Tynemouth, on Tyneside.

There are many many more interesting cases at the link right at the top. All rubbish or something to be concerned about?

All rubbish or something to be concerned about?

It's either all rubbish, or nothing to be concerned about.

If these UFOs turn out to be aliens advanced enough to travel here, I seriously doubt we'd be able to defend ourselves if they're hostile.

On the other hand, if the aliens are advanced enough to fly here, I seriously doubt they'd pratt about hovering above remote Scottish villages so a few people could see them and maybe take a grainy photograph.

I'm going to say it's all rubbish. Entertaining nonetheless.

Telegraph said:
According to the files, the Ministry of Defence first became aware of the existence of the craft when the Daily Record newspaper presented it with six colour photographs of the object. The UFO seen by two men, one of whom captured it on camera, as it hovered in daylight near the A9, at Calvine, north of Pitlochry, on August 4, 1990.

The witnesses said it hovered for about 10 minutes – during which time military aircraft were also seen making a series of low-level passes – before moving upwards, out of sight, at great speed.

The files show that officials established from the photographs that the military craft were Harrier jets even though, intriguingly, none were operational in the area at the time.

Contradiction or image manipulation anyone...

Telegraph said:
Mr Cameron laughed and replied: "I'm convinced we have been visited by alien life forms - and one of them is the trade secretary Peter Mandelson."

He added: "I have no idea there is intelligent life out there and no idea whether any of the sightings which have taken place or whether any incidents which have taken place have any basis in truth.

Ahhh, he was joking, and the Telegraph made a nice sensationalist title out of it...

Did you actually read the articles before posting them?

And remember UFO != Aliens, most of the investigating by the MOD will be to check if another nation doesn't have new technology monitoring us...
