New version of Ubuntu next week?

Is anyone looking forward to it? I had a look at their web site a few days ago and they seem to have added a new kernel, replaced a few of the apps and that's about it.

I'll d/l and install it any way of course

I read an article in the new Linux Format in which Slackworth was quoted as saying they won't upgrade to Gnome 3.0 in the next release because of the 'potentially alienating desktop changes', whatever that means!

May I ask why? EXT4 is a stable file system as far as I am aware. I've read nothing about GRUB 2 yet, perhaps I'll have a look later.

In other news Fedora 12 is either out now or will be in the next few days.

Upgrades don't d/l automatically, so you won't get it unless you select it.

In theory, it should work with any x86 compatible O/S.

That's the beauty of choice isn't it?

Personally, I don't like Mint, I prefer Ubuntu but I can see why some people do like Mint. I enjoy having a little fiddle to get Ubuntu working just the way I like

With an SSD, 9.10 boots in roughly 5 seconds according to various sources. Pretty fast IMHO.

Yes, just about. I think the only difference will be that you'll be using Grub instead of Grub 2. You'll need to do a clean install of Ubuntu to get that.
