New version of Ubuntu next week?

I've had a brief play, but nothing beyond cosmetics yet. It's prettier than 9.04 and the installer now tells you things about Ubuntu. They're certainly making an effort to make it usable for anyone. Need to give the netbook version a spin I think.

Not looked at grub 2 yet, hoping it works more reliably than I expect it to.

Whats the Boot time like in comparison to 9.04 on EXT4? and have they improved the suspend/hibernate time? These are one of the most important things for me!

Karmic boots very quickly on my system - ext4 partition on a WD Black 640GB drive. Boot time is probably halved from 9.04 and ext3.

dont really understand the fuss about boot time.. is a few seconds at each boot really a primary concern when choosing an operating system??

obviously developers put a lot of time into speeding it up, but i cant help wondering if this time could be better spent elsewhere.

Daft question here. If I install the RC, then just apt-get upgrade / apt-get dist-upgrade, will I end up with the same version as if I started from the final version? I'll probably just wait a day, but eventually I feel I should use the in place upgrade option.

that should work

but I couldn't get 9.04 to work on my machine it kept stopping on loading hardware drivers
it made me go insane!

Yes, just about. I think the only difference will be that you'll be using Grub instead of Grub 2. You'll need to do a clean install of Ubuntu to get that.
