So the Hotpoint machine we got has done us a lot of years but sounds like the bearings in the drum are shot and makes a lot of noise now but still works good.
I'm handy with tools and could have a crack at changing the bearings but from the vids iv seen and from opening up the washing machine I'm gonna have to cut the drum housing where it's sealed together and I'm worried I won't get a full on leak proof job done so looking to get a new one. Shame since the Hotpoint one we got was solid overall.

Anyone got any recommendations? Existing one is 7kg wdl5290 model and having a higher load machine would be preferable.
What brands are reliable these days to get?

Ebac, made in UK, 7 year warranty.

Or just go on ao/marks electrical/john Lewis and see if there are any warranty promotions. Just go with the ones with the longest warranty. Most modern stuff is all made with planned obsolescence, even mieles aren’t what they used to be. So just get one with the longest warranty in your price point so that when it goes wrong, and it likely will, you don’t have to pay to fix it.

Don't get a Samsung. We bought one to replace a decade old cheap beko model which finally gave up the ghost. Presumed getting an expensive machine would be better - it started leaking after just over a year. Managed to get it fixed under warranty but a lot of horror stories online about them refusing to do this. Guy that came to fix it said expensive washing machines are a waste of time. He buys the cheapest model he can find and replaces it when it breaks. If someone who fixes them for a living says that then there's probably some truth there.

I have a very nice LG that take a 10Kg load which is great as I can fit my Super king goose down duvet in it, vs paying a cleaner £40 per time to wash it. It has been flawless for several years, and has some nice features in the app that I didn't really expect to use. It also has steam functions for allergies babyy stuff, and allows a super fast 12 min wash etc. I waited a while to get the right deal, managed to get Curry's to match a price on line and got free delivery so in the end it was a smidgen over £400, not sure how much that would be in todays money.

Samsung iv heard about issues with.
Lg seems to hit and miss too but not sure in them.
Ebac iv never heard of these.
Bosch and aeg any good or should it be Miele all the way?
Got 8 years out of the Hotpoint and it still works but the noise is too much and that's just gonna put more stress on it down the line.so best to get a replacement plan in place.
What's good value for money around the 300 quid mark?

LG or Bosch for decent engineering at decent value.

Miele are good but so much more expensive, and I don't think it's really worth paying the extra. I'd rather go cheaper. I don't see Miele being able to last so much longer it's worth it, I'd rather go cheaper and update.

If you want to go budget, then I might look at Hisense, which are Chinese, but seem reasonable quality too.

Ok will check it out.
Just found the receipt for the Hotpoint washing machine I currently have. Bought in 2017 for 253 quid delivered. It's a washer dryer combo thingy.
Tempted to try a repair on it, may order the bearing kit for 10 quid and have a go over the weekend. If no good then can order new.
Just need to check up reviews , need reliability

I can recommend AEG. Had separate washing machine and dryer and both have survived 5 years so far of children appearing, probably averaging out at at least daily use.

looks like this hisense one has good reviews too on the net
surprised since hisense is Chinese brand so expected low quality. although these days i think everything is made in china?

The Chinese have been catching up fast in terms of build quality, and are beginning to rival German and South Korean brands. Just look at the quality of the cars they are now producing, they are getting very good. It also says it has a 2 yr guarantee. I would certainly consider it.

A lot of washing machines are also made in Poland (Bosch) and Turkey (Beko, possibly Indesit). Turkish manufacturing isn't as good as the Chinese.

We have had an LG 9kg direct drive for six years. Not one fault in that time and the LG warranty was for five years.

Yes I had a LG. It was a direct drive and pretty quiet. It lasted about 9 years and then started making a lot of noise. I was told a "spider" had broken, whatever that is. Anyway, they are a good brand. I swapped it for a Bosch, which has lasted about 6 years now and still going strong.

Yes, good machines. I think the spider is what supports the drum where the motor is mounted - the direct drive drums are really quite a clever thing.

We've had a LG direct drive for 11 years now. Ours had a 10 year warranty.
No problems and we wash the dogs blankets in it, Golden Retriever so very hairy and I've been known to chuck the odd paint roller in there :p

Guess it will blow up next week now I've said that.
