New watch for my 21st!

Just ignore the idiots who think spending money on nice things is stupid

So I'm an idiot for questioning something? Yeah, that figures. I'm not trolling, the OP's free to get whatever the hell he wants; I just don't understand the point in spending that much on a watch that will sit on your wrist and get scratched.

If and only if I had a lot of disposable income would I be considering spending that amount on a watch. Or are you too idiotic to work out where the other 'camp' is coming from?

Sorry OP, it wasn't my intention to **** on your thread.

To see if someone would be able to give me a genuine answer rather than fobbing me off and to voice an opinion. Why else would I be posting?

Some people take pride in how they look/feel and a nice expensive watch certainly makes me feel smarter when I go out socialising, along with my vastly overpriced garments too :p but thats another story. Hope this helps, now you wont have to post that response again :p

To the OP, how about this - http://www.tagheuer.com/the-collect...quartz-chronograph/index.lbl?w=CAH1110.BA0850 I think these are around £400-£500

I know some people dislike Tag on here but I have had one on my wrist constantly for 5 years and it's still in great shape and has never let me down, though mine is a more expensive watch than in the link.

I don't like complicated faces and I've got a nice Seiko perpetual calendar watch that was bought for me (for about £350 iirc). It's never missed a beat and I've barely taken it off whatever I've done - diving, paintballing, whatever.

If I was in the market for a watch a watch of that sort of price a the moment, I'd have one of these ... http://www.isseymiyake-watch.com/eg/twelve/models.html. They're not highly speced, but I love the minimalism

I thought that you were one of the many people who like to come into threads about more expensive watches and say "£5 casio LOL"
The simple answer is that it's nice to have nice things.

I quite like the look of some of the Archimede watches, which are in the right price-range:

Automatic too. :)

I really like that watch with the black strap :)

Fair enough, but with a lot of these watches it really seems like they're only nice because you're spending a large amount of money on them. Many of the watches I've seen that are say £300+ are absolutely no different to some you could probably pick up for £40 at a jewellers.

What is it, exactly, that makes an expensive watch better than a cheaper alternative apart from the obvious price-tag and perhaps lesser-so: the different sourcing of materials?

Again, there is no sarcasm implied here; it's a genuine curiosity. Basically, justify the price-tag because to me it seems like they just pick the numbers out of thin air to justify their overinflated prestige.

Sorry for the lack of any reply so far, been very busy today. I realise it's a lot but as someone said it's a tradition of sorts. Besides i'd like a nice watch!

yes get a used breitling

That's not a bad idea. Anywhere I should be looking inparticular? Seen a few I've really liked recently, mainly Tag's out of my price range!

I'll provide a better response when I have a real computer as apposed to my iPod!

Cheers.

Really like that Tag. That's certainly the style I'm after anyway.
