New WD elements drive - another custom cable or standard??

So I bought a 1TB WD Elements drive for my travels, going round the world and need some more storage.

I just received the drive and lo and behold it looks like it has a custom cable.

Now...is this some kind of new standard or is this WD being idiots again? Custom cables??? WHY?

I have that style connector for a hitachi external hard drive, whether its something to help support USB3 im not too sure, but dont worry, its not just WD being idiots.

It might just be Hitachi and WD being idiots.

Its a universal micro usb3 connector. You can still use a micro usb2 cable on it.

Yeah that's totally standard USB3, not propriatary at all...
