Yeah another of these things... :p

I decided my old site (http://wildaboutlife.net) is a bit plain and no good for something I want to use to sell photos so I decided to have another go, this time with some more effort and as an emphasis on the selling part (I'm starting to sell prints in the local area and advertising the site).

Anyway break it for me... :p

http://wildaboutlife.net/test/site/index.html

Some comments on the useability and style would be good to, along with some purchases from the gallery (which is set up with Paypal sandbox at the moment, if you have an account if you could do the purchase bit as well that would be useful).

Issues I know about at the moment include the blog not being fully integrated (to do...) and a couple of issues with the gallery (whole site moves left slightly in the gallery page and on the image pages the copyright bar moves up a bit, any ideas how to fix either would be appreciated). There is also an issue with the nav bar moving to the left in IE6/7 and older versions of Opera which should hopeflly now be fixed (I don't have IE6/7 or Opera 8 to test it).

I'm currently only on th iPhone (you'll be pleased to hear it works on iPhone - :p ) but one thing I noticed was how far the pictures are spread out in the gallery (that might just be iPhone Safari?).

Another thing I noted was the sizes of the prints. I think it would make more sense to offer three sizes 12in 18in and 30in for example? 18inches is going to be the most popular but if yiu sell smaller prints for bathrooms etc. And larger ones for people to hang in an office or whatever?? Just a thought... and also you pricing the framed (framed/mounted) af the same price as a canvas?? Just seems a little funny?...

Nice site overall though.

The gallery is a standard Gallery2 install with a heavily modifyable theme so I don't think I can change that, however when you say spread out by how much do you mean (in a standard browser they are generally just over the portrait shots widths if that makes sense)?

With sizes I was trying to make it quite basic to add an air of "exclusivity" as such but the argument you put forward is a good one. I was wondering about adding unframed (but mounted) prints onto the list as well (chopping out the £60 for the frame) but again not sure if that's the right thing to do. I may have a complete rething before it goes live properly and reduce the price and quality as well as increase the number of options. :)

At the moment I'm thinking of getting loxley frames and canvases, which are around the same price (and why the prices are as high as they are). I had initially wondered about pricing the canvases as more because I was thinking they could cost more to produce but in fact they are around the same price.

Looking at it on the PC in firefox now... looks good, still find the distance between the photos a little off putting perhaps, but thats just me.

I wouldn't offer them unmounted.

Your certainly not overpricing youself. Actually, I would put the canvas prices up a little - just because people are willing (and expect) to pay more for a canvas print.

Perhaps if your going for exculsivity then try 'a limited run of x'.

I'm not sure loxley is the way to go at this stage though...

Togs print is very good - £5 for a normal print at the moment and fine art prints are £15ish. They also do canvases.

Ah ok, that's easily remedied, but actually done on purpose, I wanted space between them thinking it would show them off better. Other than the front page, where I want the damn things to be two lines of two, but try as I might... :p

You're the first person to say i'm not overpricing! As mentioned before I'm trying to portray an image of "exclusivity" at the moment. Ltd. editions are on my list of things to decide as well. :)

I use loxley for all my prints and they are only a couple of £ for a 12x8 print so not much of an issue (it's the frame and mount if bought from them that is most of the £60). Unfortuanately I don't know of any decent canvas printers so have opted for something I have a good idea of the quality. That again is on my to do list though. I'm currently waiting for a photobook to arrive so I can guage interest from potential "clients" to display them, then go from there. :)

I agree with a lot of the comments here - I have no connection to any of the candids here - they are emotionally obsolete. I think to capture this kind of work it would be best to find an `event` that is emotionally charged - a wedding, a protest march, a concert etc. - then try to work it into context to tell a story - if an image doesn't excite you emotionally, then its unlikely to touch anyone else.

Saying that I respect that you went out and tried to hone skills and attempt something you haven't done before - kudos.
