hi, just bought a drive fx to play GRID with, is it just me or it seems impossible to control the dam car, it either under steer or over steer even on normal cars.

i understand it takes a bit of time getting used to but any one got any tips? like any settings i might wana change or any tracks or cars i might wana try a few hundred laps with to get used to it?

GRID is not really a game that any wheel will perform well on. My G25 is rubbish with GRID, use an XBOX style controller for it.

For all the real sims, GTR/GTR2/rFactor/GT Legends use the wheel for ultra realism.

GRID isn't really designed for wheels, it's designed for gamepads.

Bust out rFactor, GTR(2), Live For Speed or iRacing with the wheel for some good action (and lots of swearing as you get used to using the wheel!)

I know there was a bug in the game when it was first released that caused a problem with the G25, but as everyone else has said it's best played with an Xbox 360 pad.

thanks guys, i pop out later and get one of them, any recomendations? i only like grid cuase graphics looks nice/real, other games looks too erm .... like comparing css with low gfx with cod4 :P if you get what i mean....

but then again its the first racing game i stuck with more than 5 mins :P

No other pc racing game looks as polished as Grid does overall (unless iRacing does - I've heard good things about it - but you have to pay for a subscription which completely puts me of)
Race07 and GTREvo both look nice, Need4Speed shift is looking to be the game you want though. Great visuals, designed for use with a wheel :)

pish tosh .. you just need to spend some time setting up the G25 with GRiD and its perfectly fine...

theres nothing better than the G25 using the gearstick for manual change and hitting the demolition derby races.. great force feedback and jolts make for an immersive experience something no console controller can give...

its an arcade racer not a simulation but you still benefit from using a decent FF wheel setup as it definately adds to the game..

I use a steerign wheel with nfs u 1 and 2 just fine and i dare say they are probably very much aimed at the controller. Ive not played grid though but i think its just getting used to very twitchy steering. Try drifted on nfs u with a wheel. I would imagin thats a lot harder tbh.

There are people who like the idea of racing (and play Grid) and people who genuinely like the art of driving (they might play grid too, but just for a larf).

You need to find out if you're actually going to enjoy a sim, it takes a bit of dedication. Try the LFS Demo, it'll give you a good idea of what to expect, and will pit you up against some tough and some not so tough competition at the same time.

Any of the sims above are a good place to start. I personally started with GTR2, it has a quite good driving school. Oh and the graphics in any of these games are pretty nice, you don't get the shiny brown look of Grid, but you get good detailed tracks and cars.

I managed to get grid working pretty dam good with the G25 and manual H pattern gears. You just need to make sure the game is patched up and you're using the latest wheel drivers and software.

guys, i went to a mates house as he has rfactor and =/ ignoring the gfxs first i started my own profile and tested my car i just cant turn it in the corners even i break first, so is this how real driving is? i dont have a licence

oh btw i dont have a g25 i got a drivefx for £20, was soo tempted at the g25 but no money :(

g25 has recently dropped in price to 120 quid.....for probably the best wheel its well worth it...only days after i bought the driving force gt so i missed out.
driving force gt is a decent wheel though which i do love the feel of...gear stick is a bit of a let down though.

but if you dont want to fork out too much then 60-70 quid for a driving force pro is easily worth it...i paid 80 quid for mine(impulse buy at a shop) and find it easily worth the money.

Looking at those settings for the G25 and grid would have any sim fan falling off his chair.
A lot of the forces from the game are being over written by the Logitech software, that's also why it's now drivable.

If the Grid FF was any good the settings for Spring and Damper should be 0% and Centre Spring force enabled but also set to 0% those settings work with all the Sims I've played such as GTL,GPL,GTR2,Evo, and RBR

As for rFactor having too much under steer it probably does out the box as the basic cars are a bit naff and poor default setups, made worse if it was a frontwheel drive car.
you need to remove all deadzones and get a good setup when it works it's no different to any of the other Sims.

went back to grid, i cant drift yet but i now can get some control on normal racing, i just realised that when i press left button on keyboard the character in GRID turns all the way to the left, so which means whenever i turn using a wheel i just have to turn all the way really fast, seems to work a lot better now, a bit more practice and see how it goes.

I've only just reinstalled grid myself and after patching it upto version 1.2, im using the default grid settings and it's works a treat, better than my own settings i posted earlier, im still using the same settings on the logitech profiler though as i like plenty of feel and FF in my racing games.

Make sure you break smoothly and well in advance. You don't want to be touching your brakes in the corner like you can in Grid, these cars actually have weight. Don't stab the brakes or you will lock your wheels, if you see smoke in your mirrors then it isn't going well. Corner smoothly too, don't throw the wheel around. Just do everything smoothly!

Don't go for speed to begin with, learn the course and just cruise round it, each lap shaving off a second or two.

Not sure if this is patronising or not.

iRacing looks (imo) better than rFactor but not as nice as GRID, it does however give a sensation actually like driving a car rather than rotating an image on the screen :p

For $19 for a one month trial with the Legends on the oval and Solstice/Spec Racer Ford (especially the latter) on the road side of things I'd definately reccomend giving it a go, if you don't like it it's not a lot wasted, but if you're into sims I think you'll love it.

You might not love looking back at how much you've spent on it after a few months though :p

But then I bought rFactor and probably haven't played it for more than a couple of hours, but I've played iRacing for several hours a week (at least, sometimes several hours a day) since August last year...
