MS as said the free upgrade can be reinstalled/activated on the same device it was first installed on. so if you upgrade your motherboard that means it's a new device.

you could buy win10 retail which means it's transferable

Nothing wrong with a separate thread really. A question in a 60+ page thread could get lost. Since when is making another thread (even if it's a duplicate question) a crime?!

As far as I know with my limited legal knowledge it isn't a crime, why would it be one?

Granted it would be if it included illegal content or was slanderous in any way shape or form.

I will look into it and get back to you.

I have a little predicament here along the same lines...

I will get round to doing a big system upgrade before the end of 2015, probably to X99, because pCARS will probably benefit more from extra cores than the Skylake improved IPC.

But the dilemma I have is regards this Q9300 system. My upgrade means my better half could take this system off me, to replace my old Opteron 165 / Asrock Dual SATA 2 system, in which case activating the Windows 10 upgrade makes sense.

But part of me thinks that because she will then have her current AMD 7850 and this R7 265, which can be Crossfired, it would be another factor to sway towards her getting a new cpu/mobo that would not bottleneck the Crossfire. In which case activating the Windows 10 upgrade on this Q9300 would be a waste.

iirc the same exception as on windows 8 would be made for motherboard failure :D

Thanks buddy I may as well buy a retail too so i can use it on future upgrades.
As much as i love Win7 DX12 going be the future and PC Gamers going be needing that. Cheers again.
