Thinking of getting a nice new wireless router to replace cheapo BeBox one. My main problem is deciding on a router that is going to be really good in terms of wireless performance/range etc. We have a lot of wireless connections in the house because it simply isn't possible to have cables everywhere (don't ask :p). At present the bebox isn't cutting it, wireless wise, stability wise, so in desperate need of something better.

I have been looking at the netgear rangemax ones, but are they actually any good compared to d-link and zyxel offerings?

P.s. we game a lot too, TF2 etc, not sure if that helps. :p

I have only had bad experiences with d-link, which is mostly due to the firmware. I have had 2 netgear routers, both solid as a rock. But my fav is the linksys ones, which are always worth a look.

take a look at the bt (2wire) 2700hgv. its abou £15-20 on ebay and its a great router for the money. it just needs a bios tweek as bt gives it away to business' iirc

I did like Netgear but seem to be running into a few issues with them of late, so Linksys definitely worth a look, they are very configurable and probably have a product with the range you're looking for.

I use a Netgear DG834G, works flawlessly and my connection never drops and the wireless is supurb too.

They can be had now for around £30 brand new from that well known auction site.

But who offers the best wireless signal range? I am trying to get the best signal out of all my wireless connections in the home with this new router.

bt (2wire) 2700hgv

Once hacked you can alter to above the legal uk limit (1w max transmission:eek:)

Of course that is illegal and could interfer with neighbours networks etc and I would just stick with the uk legal limit of 400mW which is still better than most wireless routers you can buy.

Bear in mind that whatever you get, it's going to have to do ADSL2+ to be any use on Be.

1W and 400mW. 400W would be dangerous (think about your microwave), let alone 1kW - it would cook your neighbours, let alone their network...

Isn't it a bit pointless boosting the router's output without boosting the PC's output?

I would recommend Draytek, but their wifi performance isn't so good, unless you chnage the aerial.
