New X-Fi FDrivers For XP

Just aquired one of these, it got firmwared after trying to install the drivers with a bsod every 5mins just having the card in the system. It's made a difference, the BSOD is now every 2 minutes.

when installing the beta drivers, click next next next etc... suddenly it pops up saying updating firmware

Ive never had that. And it was that exact card i had ;)

What are youre system specs.

EDIT : Why use beta drivers? There were Vista and XP install discs

was getting nowhere with the cd drivers, kept BSOD'ing through the install

Box 1: (rig i want to use the card in)

a64 3000+
MSI k8n neo-lsr (s754) (nforce3)
1gb corsair ram
x800xt
windows media centre

cd drivers kept crashing on install, went to creative, selected newest drivers which pulled up the beta. 4 installs later it finally saw the soundcard, played sound for 30 seconds, then completely scrambled only playing noise from graphics card and usb devices, then BSOD'ing a few seconds later. would do that every restart. Trying to open the creative control panel would mean instant blue death and restart.

second box has no cd drive, so went straight on with the beta drivers:

a64x2 3800+
asus a8v deluxe rev2
2gb crucial ram (4x512)
x800xtpe
windows xp pro

drivers took a few attempts to get going, would randomly freeze halfway through setup. got to the point where windows was configuring the device to use and would freeze at the same spot at any time. Only had a few BSOD's but had a lot more freezes.

I know it was the same card, checked the history of it before buying, thought with it being xp and a fairly old spec machine it would have worked fine :(

I wouldve thought it would be fine as well, the only issues i know of are nforce4 and 680i where the problems you describe happen.

May be worth looking on the creative website as they have a forum on there that mite hilight any other problems people are having in similar systems.

I never tried it in XP as im on Vista 32bit so used the supplied CD.

Have you done the usual things they suggest like changing the PCI slot?

Nforce 3
Nforce 4
Nforce 5
Radeon Xpress 3200
Intel I955
All VIA chipsets from the KT400 and up

great, the list of chipsets with the same issues. Looks like I'll have to take apart another bloody pc to test it with a different chipset.

edit, maybe not...
I am also having problems with an Intel P4 chipset (865p)

running out of motherboards!

Blimey thats quite a list but having said that my first X-Fi was on an nforce4 board and i had none of the issues people talk about, maybe i was just lucky.

Do you know anyone close by with a recent chipset like a P35 or nforce 650 that could test it?

Updated my firmware aswell as i said earlier in the thread and so did a few others , maybe you just didn't notice it?.. I didn't at first , till i had to reinstall then i noticed it :)

Oh and i have an nforce 4 sli-d and it bsod's on me too if i try to install the original drivers with this updated firmware crap , i can only use the beta drivers nothing else now. Yes i've totaly cleaned the drivers from the system before installing

Its impossible to clean out creative driver with the like of the guru3d and drivercleaner. doing so just makes things worse as the installer gets confused and you endup with driver bsod. A clean os install is the only way to got for 100% functioning of the creative drivers. installign newer versions over the top is generaly ok, but rolling back can be a nightmare.

there is no way I'm formatting a pc just to test if a soundcard works or not, I've tried it on 3 different chipsets with the drivers and it's still not working.

yay I'm back, this time with the squeal of death!

Managed to get a second xfi extrememusic and after a few attempts the drivers worked and it was running well (tried connecting the other card to the same pci slot and it couldn't recognise it)

anywho that's not the current problem, recently purchased a PCI graphics card to run along side my agp one (can't afford to be going pciexpress right now). Not only is the dvi on the new card flickering every so often, i've started to experience the squeal of death, including a locked up pc. Moved the graphics card around but still getting it. Can xfi work along side other pci devices?

The latest drivers mess things up for me, I noticed lower FPS, longer boot times and windows was unstable, also STILL I get cracking. I had to roll back :/

This X-Fi card has given me problems from the start, I'm actually thinking of taking it out and going back to the on-board Realtek one. Creative need to sort it out.
