So I have finally decided to invest into building a more powerful computer for my work and gaming needs, but I have ran into so many issues so far with it and is causing me some concerns...
The build spec is as follows
CPU: i7-5820K @ OC 3.8 / Corsair H50
MOBO: Gigabyte X99 Gaming 5
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws 4 - 2666Mhz 4x4GB
GPU: GTX 780 Windforce X3
PSU: Corsair TX750 Modular
HDDS:
Samsung EVO 120GB SSD
Toshiba 2TB
Seagate Barracuda 500GB
Where to begin... I just want to list everything that has happened so far to give the best info I can.
I originally bought G.Skill 2400 Mhz ram but found that the windows would lock up sometimes within 20 seconds to 20 mins if ran with the speed at 2400Mhz.
So I updated the BIOS through USB following the instructions and it said that it completed successfully, only to find when I restarted the computer the main bios AND the back up bios had completely corrupted and wouldn't even post. 2 hours later I managed to finally get the motherboard to read the USB and got the newest bios flashed and it booted fine. The issue still remained with the memory so I ordered my current ram only to find that one of the sticks was DOA (Just my luck). After speaking with G.Skill I got to keep 2 sticks while they RMA'd the other 2 and since then I have had no issues with my memory and my computer was running fine..
Now however the computer has now begun to start up on it's own rarely after I shut it down (between 10 seconds to 70 hours) and when it does it usually happens multiple times in a row. This is also usually followed by the computer failing to boot either sticking at a flashing "_" in the corner or it being there for a long time then restarting again and the bios telling me it has failed to boot and to either reset to defaults or enter bios. Restarting after this the computer boots fine into windows.
I am just getting concerned as it is the first time I have spent a large amount on a build only for it to throw so many issues at me, and being a student my funds aren't there to just replace parts or buy another to check for issues so any advice would be great!
I found that gigabyte has the ErP function for wake on lan/events, I have enabled that to disable the wake ups but found that Windows locked up and had to reset. I don't know if it was coincedence but I have now turned ErP back off and removed the OC from my CPU the XMP profile of the memory.
Sorry about the wall of text,
Steve
