I'm basically thinking i really want to get something arranged this year, rather than leaving it to the last minute and ending up doing the same thing we do every year.

Do you have plans? Can you make some suggestions of what are going to be big NYE parties and events?

I'm interested in anything..clubbing, events, anything.

Yes I have plans. I'm taking my other half to my sisters' where we plan to watch terrible ninja movies and drink until we fall off the sofa.

Last year about 25 of us rented out a converted barn in the middle of now where, took booze, food, tv/dvd and games. That was one awesome new year, doing the same this year some where else.

The celebrations in London are always worth attending. The fireworks are absolutely amazing, and lots of random drunk people on the embankment to talk to.

That sounds awsome. Any hint on where one could rent a converted barn in middle of no where?

Wow do you get to see aurora there in Scotland?

You might get lucky if you are at the very tip but you'd stand a much better chance in Finland or somewhere closer to the Arctic Circle. Rovaniemi is rather nice but probably quite pricey around New Years time partly because of all the folks who have gone to see Santa.

As for my Hogmanay, I'll probably be spending it at a friends house in the country, I think there will be quite a few of us going which should make for a good laugh. :)

Trying to find the barn we went to last year and the one were are going to this year.

Argh can't find the new year emails, i'll let you know if i find them

Most likely going Bristol for NYEs. Usual thing is to spend a night in boring ol' home city, and fancy a change this time round. Got mates still at halls in Bristol so prob have a mad party there and head out for the night.. woot woot

This year for New Year's Eve we will be in Dunedin so will be celebrating it 13 hours before we normally do. In summer. Which will probably be a bit confusing.

Still undecided just now. My easy option is always just to come back up to Edinburgh, stay in my flat and go for the street party, which I've not actually done yet. On the other hand, I have no confidence that it wont be rained off once again.

For the last 3 years I've spent my new years in a barn with ~100 other people raving about for warmth and having an amazing, if slightly messy, time. Free parties! Could be a plan again, depends on whether any of my mates are going for it this year - at least I know it'll take a lot more than rain to call it off :D

Edinburgh Street Party

I've been about 3 times but several years back now and I always found it mildly anti-climactic, the fireworks are stunning for the pressure you feel in your chest with the soundwaves but other than that it didn't stand out hugely for the street party itself. Of course ending up miles away from where you are meant to be with only the vaguest recollection of how you got there is rather more interesting but that is another story. ;)
