New years planning

I'll be in Canada, so most likely an early night then up early for New Years Day skiing, hopefully with my daughter :D

We have a decent rotation of who hosts and have a dinner party type thing (bring a dish) for about 10-15 of us. We have a baby this year though, so wondering if it's even feasible to do this. We won't be hosting, could take the baby along and try and put him to bed but that would involve taking travel cot etc. And one of us stays sober these days as it's not really a good idea to both get hammered with such a small dependent. So a bit of a gear change this year.

Difficult to make plans as I normally support year end into the evening and the next day :( Whoever said IT was 9-5?
I get plenty of time off in lieu so well wort it as I can take it when I want, normally later in the year.

I wont be doing anything as I have done it all. When you spend £400 pound on one night you know when to call it a day.

New year is just a cash cow for business.

A few drinks at home with a baileys or brandy with a few maraschino cherries then its happy dayz. :p

Usually we just do house parties as it's easier and cheaper, we ended up in Newcastle City Centre last year for the first time which was OK. I'm waiting for a music event in Amsterdam to be announced soon for this NYE and hopefully flying over there for it this year :D

Last year I went to the local club and celebrated there but last orders were at 12 and we were all kicked out by 12.30am. Kebab on way home and in bed by 1am. Year before I just stopped in and watched the fireworks on TV with a kebab.

This year will be either one of the above.

Normally meet with friends from school outside London but I have done London a couple of times before for NYE, though I live here so didn't need to worry about hotel costs. One time I went out with a flatmate to watch the fireworks, we brought a couple of bottles ourselves and just walked along the thames - problem is it is super crowded where the fireworks are and there are no toilets (not a huge drama for me and my flatmate at the time as my office was practically on the river and we could swipe in to use the facilities there). Security guard actually mentioned that he would have let us up onto the roof if we'd gone there before the fireworks.... schoolboy error on my part for not asking in advance.

By the looks of some of the pubs/bars (which were inevitably ticketed) they were completely rammed, didn't even bother going in there. Oh and to top the evening off some **** groped my flat mate and then ran off into the crowd just as I was taking a picture of her on Blackfriars bridge.

Essentially if you don't already live in London I really wouldn't bother coming down for the fireworks, you'd probably need to arrive hours in advance to get a good view and once there you'll be stuck in a crowd, unable to go to the bogs etc..

The second time I stayed in London I took a date out NYE - we booked a comedy night at a hotel in Holborn - this turned out to be a pretty decent night, saw some really good comedy acts and then before midnight we went down to the ball room for a disco along with some other guests who had paid for some fancy dinner event. During the breaks when watching the comedy night and afterwards there was barely any queue at all for the bar - could get served more or less right away. Was super easy to get a taxi from outside the Hotel in the early hours of the morning too.

Having said that the best NYEs I've had have been with a group of school friends in Edinburgh (when one of the group had a big place up there within a short walk of Princes Street).

That does sound amazing, went to Canada for 4 weeks as a kid visiting relatives, my nan was the contact between us and them, when she died we lost all contact with the relatives that are still alive, would love to get back in contact and go back :)

Nice! I have a friend that's over in Fernie (BC) he's been there for over a year and is getting his citizenship now :) He loves it and I can see why.

Will be a great new years.

Locking the front door, bed by 10:30, get up really early and just rev the motorbike for a couple of hrs.

Makes me happy, i do not really care you :)

Probably stay here and see who else turns up.. Just a hut in the mountains with a log burner and no phone signal. Ideal

I'm in the process of applying for my Permanent Residency, then Citizenship when I can. I lived there for 3 years, hence having a daughter over there :) I was on Vancouver Island most, west of Vancouver. Quite near a ski resort! Fernie is awesome, not surprised he loves it.

Do it! I was there on a Working Holiday Visa, if you're under 30 then they're simple to apply for.
