Anyhoo, we complained about our pay when the thirteenth (yes you read right, thirteenth) Government report into our pay and conditions stated that we already got paid too much and that the Service needed modernised (ie less funding). The previous twelve reports all stated that we where paid far too little for what we do and that a major pay increase was warrented. We then settled on the lowest of those recommened rises which would have given us a 15% pay rise which would have more than made up for years of poor rises.

The Government stuck by it's assertion that they didn't want to give us anything, would not negotiate and we where forced to strike. Just a pity we where led down the garden path by a Labourite lackey. It is forgotten that we where called parasites for wanting 15% but the Government tried to hush up awarding themselves a 24% rise. Here endeth the lesson on who the real parasites are.

Don't et me wrong i have nothing against fire fighters, i have many friends that are firemen and my gf's Dad was a sub-officer i just think its a bit rich seeing things like this after what happened with the strikes :)

Aye it's a tough life. Long shifts sitting on the sofa eating crap and watching porn, then out twice a day to get a cat down from a tree :p

I seem to remember seeing something in the FAQ about "not launching personal or abusive attacks on other members". I'd say you overstepped that line with your comment.

You might disagree with what was said, but doesn't mean you should get all lary with him.

I wouldn't mind too much if that was all I did but in the last two weeks alone I've had three house fires, six RTA's (two of which where fatalities), six derelict buildings (the same one four times over), numerous grass and bin fires and several false alarms and hoaxes. While I am allowed to sleep on nightshift (all to do with EC regulations about hours worked and rest periods) I've had very, very little sleep. I'll be really glad when the kids go back to school.

Bear in mind that I'm also a member of MIRG (Maritime Incident Response Group) and as such I do loads of training for that role.
