Are any of you aware what happens when you pull someones arms behind their back when they resist? You can cause serious injury, its WHY people are restrained there, when you pull someones arm it causes pain when they resist, can also quite easily dislocate a shoulder from that position. So their choice was, kick the crap out of him, risk breaking his arm cuffing him because he was CLEARLY RESISTING IT, pepper spray him, in which case again he'd be in pain and without really the ability to clean it out quickly or easily so when you use that brain thing, you might realise it might be painful but its the least severe option they have.

AS for pepperspraying the mother, are you retarded, I actually didn't watch the final 5 seconds.

Please explain to me who is trained to grab the woman from behind, placing your face BY the targets face, then pepper spray a liquid that will spread out in the air at the target, thereby spraying yourself in the face. If you think she was peppersprayed you are truly retarded, I mean truly. That alone proves the commentary vs the facts are crap, utterly made up. They hold/restrain a woman who was getting loud and agitated and banging on the car, again, just how you should react when 7 cops are arresting someone.

THe commentary means nothing, watch the video, watch where its cut, you know the bit that proves his sober. The bit where he can't walk in a straight line, the bit where the commentry says they are saying he stinks, where he is unable to work out he's saying he smells of alcohol. THe bit where he ignores the " lie down on the floor OR " and only says the "I'll taser you part" .

This whole video is, drunk guy driving irratically is pulled over by cops, guy pulls over incredibly dangerously. DO you realise he's SPEEDING and basically does a handbreak stop right infront of a cop car driving at the same speed. the cop car pulled to the left to avoid hitting him. He then resisted and questioned them at every step, refused every request, resisted arrest and got tasered.

You can't even see if the woman is old, his mother and she certainly wasn't peppersprayed. seriously, you do not walk into the line of fire of pepperspray, then do it. It would be as retarded as standing behind her, taking gun out and shooting her in the face just to see the bullet pass through and shoot yourself.

So thats wrong, but ignoring all logic to call americans, as a whole, stupid is completely fine.

I also find it disturbing people ignore worse cases in the UK just to have a go at American's, again I'll point out that a guy in the UK who didn't resist arrest, was on the floor already cuffed with two fat cops sitting on top of him, wasn't struggling at all was tasered.

Just to point out that I'm not sure I was over the top, stepping into the line of fire before using pepper spray. Not to throw the PC bandwagon at you, but for the last 25 years using the R word isn't exactly insulting, infact, I've never met anyone whose actually used that word to seriously say they think someone is infact retarded, its just one of those words we use when people say something stupid.

EDIT:- you could also argue I wasn't calling anyone directly a ****** , it should read to people that the idea that they had peppersprayed the mother was ********. Now if we can't insult the bad idea's people have in this world, forum banter would stop almost instantly ;)

Maybe you don't find a problem with the word but I do and I'm not alone as a lot of my friends share this view and my area isn't one of the best spots to pick in Edinburgh. So on that regard I find it a bit strange that someone of your intellect would start speaking in this manner?.

It's a disgusting way to talk about something regardless of the situation and if all the people in your life and your surroundings talk like that then I think you need new company :).

I'm not going to make a big thing out of this though. I hate the word, it's repulsive, end of.

I've seen video of American police murdering a black guy who been handcuffed and was carted into a cell. He was screaming "don't kill me, don't kill me" and they kept hitting him with the taser. Eventually, he died.

They've got tasers on the streets of Northern Ireland now in a trial run. Politicians from both sides (unionist and republican) voiced concerns about their introduction into the police service. Hugh Orde effectively told them to go **** themselves and introduced them anyway.

To me they're weapons of torture, there are ways and means of subduing criminals that have worked in the UK for centuries. We don't need over the top American methods of doing something when in most instances common courtesy would work fine.

He could have been drunk and it edited out but I still think they have massively over reacted as they had the guy on the ground and could have easily just put in in handcuffs. They zapped him as they had already decided they wanted to do it. They went after the woman who was not happy on the brutal attack on her son.

I am sorry but in no way can you defend attacking someone face down on the ground.

Well not to play devil's advocate here but you have to remember these cops have to deal with bottom feeders and complete scum of the earth too, and they're uptight and overbearing for a reason.

I know this is probably a one off

If only. Unfortunately there's been an alarming number of incidents of US police officers deploying and using Taser when the situation has not been serious enough to warrant it.

O_o Where did all those other cops come from at the end?

The two cars you see with lights on approaching from the other side of the road during the clip.

As for what drunkenmaster has said, I won't quote any specific parts because they'd be longer than my own post anyway. What I will say is that, while you accuse others of having a blinkered view of American police, you yourself seem to have a blinkered view of what is acceptable police conduct. I'll be the first person to defend and elaborate on police actions when said actions are actually justifiable, but in this case they are not. Regardless of what country the clip was from, and ignoring the commentary on the clip, the officers involved absolutely escalated through the hierarchy of force far, far too quickly. Taser is intended to be slotted in just below firearms in the continuum of force, as a method of incapacitating someone who is violent or dangerous in a situation that does not warrant deadly force. Non-compliance is NOT a justifiable reason to deploy Taser, unless the suspect is also being or attempting to be violent or dangerous.

Quite frankly, that's absolute nonsense. Physically restraining a suspect is an unarmed restrain and control technique, something all well-trained police officers should know how to do well and without risk of serious injury to themselves or the suspect. Obviously if the suspect continues to resist strongly and the potential for injury arises, it's time to escalate, but there is no good reason for the officers in this case to completely skip a stage on the hierarchy.

Now if we can't insult the bad idea's people have in this world, forum banter would stop almost instantly ;)

No, it would just simply exclude the people who resort to name calling, which would be to the benefit of everyone who is actually capable of having a reasonable discussion.
