A good grindcore band is a rare thing but there are a some..

OPs is an example of one of the many bad ones, there are many as its the cool thing to do seemingly -.-
 
My 'friend' listens to this sort of stuff. He claims he hates people who listen to music solely because of it's popularity, and yet doesn't listen to music solely because of it's popularity. He's the kind of person who'll stand up and say music is subjective, and then when he's done call whatever you're listening to as being utter ****.

Now, obviously that's stereotyping, but all of the people I know, or have seen who listen to this kind of music seem to have carry this elitist attitude which frankly, is rather childish and ignorant.
 
Ah, brings back memories of early Napalm Death, OLD, Bolt Thrower, ENT, Carcass et al. Back in the days before they were famous and only played in the underground clubs.

Those were the days.

I have yet to find any of this music that is listenable, let alone enjoyable.

/Awaits Penski to come along with some of that "His voice is an instrument" claptrap :p
 
Lol at the Grindcore vid being a response to "What is grindcore and what is not"... some guy getting really upset about the erm "Stupid ****tard scene kids" not knowing the difference between deathcore and grindcore.... umm ok...

Whatever happened to the days when there was only about 8 different music genres and both of the above and many more would have come under the heading of "metal"? Or am i just getting old? I don't get why there has to practically be a different genre for every band!

edit: That breakcore sounds alright actually - dance music crossed with metal... reminds me of Fear Factory.

btw... see what i did thar? i used 2 genres to describe some music instead of making up a completely new genre... ;) :p

Dance music crossed with metal doesn't tell you anything. Can you honestly not see why there is the need for more than eight (as you put it) genres of music? Dance music with metal, could be screaming death metal mixed with trance, or metalcore mixed with drum and bass, or anything. I never see why there is such a backlash against having lots of genres of music. I'm quite thankful for the fact that if I find a band...such as Lightning Bolt...that I know that if I do a search for math-rock or art-rock I'll be able to find similar bands, rather than doing a search for rock, and being told Lightning Bolt are similar to U2 and REM....
