Fistly I am useless at networking, because I have never had a need to learn

So here is what I need to know:

I recently built my brother a new computer. The blueyonder cable modem is in my room, and I need to get internet access to my brother who is just on the other side of the wall (easy to drill a hole through if needed).

What would be the easiest method to achieve this and what would I need? Nothing fancy, he needs internet access and I suppose file sharing.

Wireless network.
Set up connect, voila.

Linksys WRT54GS router and either a length of Cat 5e network cable or a wireless card for your brothers machine.

Is wireless really necessery when he is just on the other side of the wall? I am not looking to spend a fortune and although I know wireless is not expensive is there not a cheaper solution?

It's cheaper to stick a bit of wire through the wall, but it's up to you if it's worth the hassle.

Yes crossover cable between both pcs is cheaper but probably harder to configure. Or a 4 port hub.

Router will allow brothers to access even if your machine is off. Crossover means yours will need to be on and connected.
