I hope to take delivery of my new case tomorrow a CM 690. I currently have a Mesh mid tower with one exhaust fan at the rear and one small fan on the side panel over cpu. I want to OC the CPU to about 3.0 from the current 2.4. My temps at 10 % OC are 51C at idle previously 45C. Any suggestions for a cheapish cooler upgrade? Do i need one?

Secondly to help cooling i want to tidy my cables. I have seen some case mods with braided style covers on the wiring. Is this easy to do? By that i mean how do you get the narrow cover over the power connectors? Or do they come off easy.

Thanks

What is your case? It sounds like a Coolermaster Elite, if it is it can fit another 120mm fan on the front, i would do that first.

As for a new fan+heatsink, since Overclockers don't have anything from Xigmatek, you'd have to keep an eye out for these:

Xigmatek Dark Knight S1283

or

Xigmatek S1284C Achilles Edition

Either would be fine, although the latter has one more heatpipe and is only £2 more expensive. Frostytechs reviews say that they both get brilliant temperatures and near silent fans, while being quite cheap.

Thanks andi :p

You might want to remove those links - you can only link to overclockers.co.uk

As for a cooler - one of these (unfortuantely currently out of stock) would be awesome and should fit on any future upgrade.

If you need to save pennies, this one is pretty good.

Its called braiding. Not too expensive, not too cheap, not too difficult. Very time consuming. Wires which are getting in my way generally get wrapped in pvc tape instead.

Cable ties are amazing. Buy a pack of several hundred and use them everywhere. Brilliant things

Brading makes it looks nice and keeps it tidy, as said above it is time consuming - some PSU's already have this feature. :D.

The Artic Freezer 7 PRO is suppose to be good, i have just taken delivery of mine for £20 inc. for an E5200, i'll report temps back :)

With paste you can either;

1. Do a dot in the center of the CPU.
2. Do a vertical line down the middle of the CPU.
3. Spread the paste evenly over the CPU.
4. (If the cooler is new it'll have paste on it anyway, then you just put it on :D)

Ive only ever seen this on stock coolers.
Ive tried the even spread method and it didnt work out too well - I always use the spot in the middle now.
