So I really do lack basic knowledge on cars. I understand what the components do but not exactly how they work and how they affect each other etc.


So my question is; How much of an effect would aftermarket tyres have on my car?

FYI I have a 2013 Ford Fiesta 1.0L Ecoboost 100PS currently with stock wheels and tyres.


I'm looking to replace my alloys with a nice set of 16" MSW's and I can get a deal on a set of tyres if I buy them both at the same time and I have a bit of money to throw at my car at the moment. So is it really worth it? And will I feel the effect on handling, cornering and general driving?
 
Generally the tyres thrown in with package alloys are the cheapes crud available. If you take a look on threads here, the likes of Goodyear,Continental,Michelin are the tyres to aim for.

Dont go for cheap tyres, its just false economy.
 
Aftermarket tyres? All tyres are aftermarket. Do you mean aftermarket alloys. Unless you intend to drive round on bare rims, so I'd suggest also getting tyres of some sort. Unless they are made by Linglong, in which case bare rims may be better.

Is it really worth it? No. You'll devalue the car, possibly invaludate your insurance, and look like a chav/boy racer.
 
What does tyres it have on it to start with?

If it's come with something decent on it then the ZE914s would probably feel a noticeable downgrade.

Put whatever wheels you want on it (well, assuming they fit etc. :p), it might look awful or it might not, depends entirely on the particular wheels you want.

As for tyres, always go for the best you can afford but be aware that from new the car may well have some fairly good ones already so be wary of downgrading unintentionally.

If you want to improve the handling, my best advice would be to get the alignment checked. They aren't always bang on from the factory.

OEM alloys are the only alloys that won't look daft on a 2013 Fiesta, and even then, it's money down the pan. Unless you're rolling on steelies, I'd stick with what it came with, and put the money into a pot for a proper upgrade.
 
Can you suggest a 'proper' upgrade?

I want a remap in a year or so after my no claims bring my insurance down a tad which claims it can pull 140bhp from my diddy 1.0T
