Hey all, finally registerd at the forums after reading some helpfull info :)

was just wondering if anyone could please help me with my setup. i just purchased the ASRock N68C-S UCC mobo and the AMD Athlon II X2 Dual Core 250 3.00GHz (Socket AM3) processor and also the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 CPU Cooler. I hope they will work well with each other as the mobo supports AM3 processors. As i aint got much cash at the moment which do you think i should add next?. I have a old Nividia 7300 GT, 2GB DDR2 ram spare from my old pc, but was wondering if i should get a graphics card, better, PSU, or upgrade to better ram DDR3? If you bought this mobo and processor what would you add next? thanks a lot :)

i hate to say it, but if you have the cash i would agree with sending it back and getting a socket 1155 intel pentium and the cheapest H61 or H67 motherboard (whichever you can afford) along with a possible PSU upgrade depending on what make/model you have.
not only is the pentium much better than the athlon, but the socket it is on has FAR better upgrade prospects. the best you can hope for on your current motherboard is a low power phenom II X4, which is about the same as the i3 2100. whereas you could go all the way up to an ivybridge equivalent of the i7 2700k if you went with the pentium + socket 1155 motherboard.
unfortunately if you did this you would need to get DDR3 RAM, but DDR3 RAM is a hell of a lot cheaper than DDR2 right now, so you might be able to get some money back by selling the 2GB DDR2 RAM you have now

you can send back your current kit under the distance selling regulations if youve had it for less than 7 days for a full refund. you will have to pay postage, but it shouldnt cost too much

ah thanks a lot, i orderd the parts 2 days ago so they have not arrived yet, as my old mobo/processor went bust i kinda rushed it to order parts i should have took my time :D as i aint got much cash atm, which board/processor do you think would be best to get at around £120.

CPU http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-367-IN&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=1671

Mb http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-483-AS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1990 it's a z68 so you could pop in a k series sandybridge or maybe a ivybridge in the future and overclock it(h61/67 wouldn't allow you to oc even with a k series processor). cheap no frills or xfire/sli

little over budget there.

you will also need ddr3 ram as well 4gb is ~£20,

what psu do you have? If it's a cheap/no/unknown brand then it'll need replacing.

as the parts haven't arrived see if you can cancel the order if not shipped, if they have shipped just reject the delivery(also phone up and let the company know you're doing that just to be save).

if your quick you might be able to cancel the order, post a message in the customer service section ASAP:

while an i3 2100 + Z68 motherboard would be nice, its way out of your budget. heres something a bit more reasonably priced
YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Pentium G620 2.60GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £52.99
1 x MSI H61M-E33 Intel H61 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard **B3 REVISION** £46.99
1 x Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C10 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (BL2KIT25664BA160A) £21.98
Total : £132.47 (includes shipping : £8.75).

*edit*
heres a comparison of a higher clocked version of your processor vs the one we're recommending:

hopefully you see why everyone and their mother have been recommended intels of some sort with that and the upgrade possibilities :)

ah many thanks. Current PSU is a Ez-Cool 500w. everything in the pc is new ecept the cd-rom, graphics card, ram as everything got replaced last year, and yes i broke it all ready, was cleaning out all the dust and when i uncliped the heat synce bit of plastic snaped, then a few processor pins broke/bent. was on a AMD Athlon dual core 5000, and a Gigabyte M52l-S3P Mobo :(

Many thanks m8 this is right in my price range atm, so i guess when the stuff arrives tuesday send it back and go with this. atm im using a XBlade Midi Tower case will the mobo fit ok? and will the Ez-Cool 500w be enought?, tanks:)

if you really cant afford one then you will be able to get away with the Ez-cool PSU for a little while if your using a very low power graphics card. however, i would recommend replacing it ASAP because when that EZ cool goes pop, it will take a lot of stuff with it

judging by your funds your not going to go for an expensive graphics card, so, depending on what your thinking of upgrading to graphics wise i'd get either the corsair builder series 430W or the lepa W-series 500W.

it might cost you ~£40, but it will probably save that much on the electric bill if you use the computer a good amount because its far more energy efficient than the ez-cool

for the sake of £25(if my maths is correct) get the z68 :)

oh and think you may want to upgrade the psu as well.

what's the case?

is the CDROM IDE? If so that'll also need replacing, dvdrw are £15-£20.
oh and is the graphics card pci-e?

if its due to arrive tuesday it might still be at OcUK. if you make a post in the customer service forums they should be able to cancel it without you having to post it back.
heres the link again: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=118

the case should be just fine for what your doing :)

*edit*
if the hard drive or DVD drive is an IDE drive you will need one of two things:
- replacements (very expensive)
- an IDE card (available for just over £10 in the rainforest*)

I could probs stretch it to around £150 for now, and yes still on a old IDE dvd-rom which is on its way out as it takes a good 10mins for it to open lol. For now just need the main parts, mobo/processor and what ever else is needed as atm i have a pc without a mobo/processor rest of the stuff could be re used for now the graphics card atleast. i have 2gb DDR2 XMS ram, EzCool PSU which is a cheap one, Nividia 7300 GT PCIe graphics card.

Thanks a lot m8 i will see what i can do. I had a email from OC saturday morning saying its due to arrive tuesday. If it aint left OC yet will mke it much easier :D

IDE drives wouldn't work as the new mb don't have IDE connector, will have problems installing windows without an optical drive unless you happen to have a USB install?

ah i will probs grab a cheap drive to then. i seen a few earlier while browsing. Also do you have link to the z68 you was on about so i can check specs :)

so now i will go with what reaper suggested, Intel Processor, 1155 chipset, grab ram, dvd-rom. which low price PSU would you suggest?

the link to the mb is in my 2nd post, post #5

for psu reaper has made a couple of suggestions.

anyway really need to get some sleep, have to get up early

That's a socket LGA1156 processor and won't fit in the mobo.

You need a socket LGA1155 (Sandybridge) if you want to use Z68.

ah thanks a lot no idea how i dident see that lol, i'll get this processor as its the 2nd cheapest. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-386-IN&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=2037

was just checking out memory and on the mobo support list it has the KHX1333C7D3K2/4GX(XMP). Was just wondering what the XMP stood for? will this ram work well with this processor & mobo? cheers.
